I think my sister might be addicted to Vicodin

It's hard for me to say for sure because I haven't lived at home for some time (she's much younger than I) so I don't know her history perfectly...but I'm really concerned.  It started a few years ago when she was in high school.  I believe the first time she was prescribed Vicodin it was for menstrual pain.  She had an exploratory surgery to look for endometriosis because she was in so much menstrual pain, but it came back as negative for the disorder.  She had her tonsils removed due to several throat infections, and received liquid Vicodin for that.  She had her gallbladder removed and received Vicodin for that.

Now, in the past few months: she was diagnosed with IBS and wanted Vicodin for that stomach pain.  Finally the doctors convinced her and my parents that it was not OK to use Vicodin for that as it was ruining her stomach lining.  But since then, she keeps coming up with reasons to need Vicodin...first a UTI, then a kidney or bladder infection, then more menstrual troubles.  And she puts herself through all these tests for these illnesses but nothing ever comes back as conclusive.

I'm so worried.  Is this how Vicodin addiction starts?  How do I bring this up to my parents?

I did the same thing.  I was at the drs every few weeks, then I would call and say my wisdom tooth was infected or I need my script early because we are going on vacation.  You do and say whatever to get them.  My Dr called me out on it because its obvious I am addicted.  What scared me is the forum where people are so sick from overdose and going through withdrawl, show her those people, its really sad.  I will never forget a woman said she didnt even care about her kids, they could just run around the house and do whatever while she laid in bed popping pills.  She didnt care about anything but getting more pills.  Hope you can get through to her, she is still so young and I remember that age I thought I was invincible.

i think you should do some straight talking with your sister, apart from being addicted to this drug, she will do her stomache no good what so ever, ulcers etc , talk to her and tell her you will inform your parents if you dont get some straight answers, being addicted to this is no picnic, and she may need help, or to realise the seriousness of this, best wishes,
