i stopped taking my prescribed dose of oxycontin, i became a raving lunitic, i smashed nearly everything in my house. I then took oxcontin, a valium and lyrica and settled down some time later. Is this behaviour normal for sudden ly stopping oxy

Stress to one's system hits when getting off the oxycontins..The first week is pretty much a h*ll week before we start to stabilize "some"..Your outburst could be associated with the ill feelings you started to feel and were not sure how to handle..Anne has made a good suggestion with taking a taper approach ith this..I would suggest you speak with your doctor about it and drop to a lower dose med in the 10mg range and reduce from maybe 4 a day to 3 to 2 to 1 then stop over a couple week period....This is what I did and it helped immensely with some of the hard core wd's..

I say this because I had a cold turkey experience from the 40's last April. I honestly don't know how I got thru the week I did back then as that was real bad..About drove me half crazy until I found this site and was able to figure out that what I was feeling was "normal" for stopping that type of medication..Thats a key word in this process..Normal..I say this because when the day comes that you decide to stop again,,you need to remember that what your going thru is "normal" so you can deal with the uncomfortable first 3 or 4 days with the proper mindset..Mindset is everything..If you know whats coming, then it makes things easier to deal with mentally even though, and I'm not going to lie about this, those first few days will be filled with headache, toilet problems aches and pains, and a feeling of "screw this". After the 5th day though, things begin to get better slowly and you begin to realize it was worth it to get away from them...Need to be upfront with your doctor though. He can help you with this and give you some non narcotic meds that can help in the process....If you have any other questions , feel free to ask. My best,,:)
