I know a girl who got charged with this.  She would run out of her scripts and go to the ER and other doctors and get more and fill them at different pharmacies.  Finally caught up to her.  It's not worth it.

I have known my fair share of addicts who dr shop and I have yet to see anyone charged with this crime.  Not saying it can't happen, perhaps it depends on the State you are in and if they have the resources to investigate such matters.  That being said, just because many are not charged with it does not mean they can't.  It is a very easy thing to prove since pharmacies keep detailed records.

Usually the docs dont know that the patient is shopping around. Here in MN most of the pharmacys report filled prescriptions of controlled substances to the state. Hopefully she will get some help before it comes to any charges be brought against her.

Yes, that is doctor shopping and it is a felony in most states.

How long has she been doing this?

i think it is if she goes to the same pham to get it filled then they look into it, but if its a bunch of doctors im sure they will figure it out, she will run outa luck soon so she should stop now
