schitzophrenia

For a long time i am thinking thoughts that i am a bad person and no one likes me. i also wake up feeling guilty about things for no reason everyday, like i upset someone the night before but actually didnt upset anyone. thinking people are talking about me when i am out and stuff. i have had depression a while ago and tried to commit suicide during that time i also drink alot now it seems to take the anxiety away.is this a sign of schitzophenia or some other similar  illness. thanks.

DSM 4
Schizophreniform
At presentaion the diagnosis is usually unclear. Psychosis secondary to substance abuse or to a physical disoprdermust be ruled out. Persistence of symptoms of disabilty beyond 6 months suggest Schizophrina, but the acute psychosis may also evolve into a psychotic mood disorder such as bipolar or schizoaffective diorder. longitudinal observation is often requiered to establish the diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

There is a big difference b/t true delusions that are a symptom of schizophrenia and feeling as if no one wants to be around you, people are talking about you behind your back, being lonely, etc. Depression can make you feel that way too. A lot of people who suffer from depression use alcohol to feel better, but as I'm sure you have learned, it doesn't really work - not in the long term anyway. Alcohol is a depressant and will only intensify your feelings of sadness and continue to damage your self esteem.

I really hope that you will seek some professional help. A psychiatrist or other mental health professional can talk to you about the symptoms you have and give you an accurate diagnosis so that you can start a treatment program that will work best for you. That could be as simple as counseling and medication. You need to be honest with them about the drinking so they can help with that as well.

Glad you posted. Please keep us updated. Depression can be so lonely but you are not alone here. There are lots of great people here who are so willing to help and support you. Please reach out when you need help.

The good news is these do not sound like symptoms of schizophrenia.  It would be a good idea, as others have suggested to get some counseling. It does sound more like depression and self esteem problem.
Schizophrenia usually comes on in late teens and early 20's.  They usually have trouble concentrating and often hear voices.  My brother was schizophrenic. If you are having a conversation with someone, do you find it hard to focus on what they are saying ?  Do background noises seem to be louder than the person your speaking with ?  There are also different types of schizophrenia. Schizophrenics often do have problems with alcohol and drugs as they try to self medicate a lot.
How old are you ?  and how long have you been feeling like this ?

as you said you have a little boy who needs you, when you are drinking your not all their for him. Have you tried to stop drinking lets say for a week? You could try going to AA you will find a lot of people that feel as you do. It is always easier to go thru hell with some-one rather then alone, also might want to look into a different anti depressant if you trust your self with them and keep posting night or day Limbo

I am glad to hear that you don't have that feeling anymore, but you do a way out with the drinking. Can you go to AA? I have heard great things about it. Do you have anyone else to talk to that is close to you? You say that you have a son, that is all the motivation in the world to be sober, right? We are all here to help in any way we can. You say that you drink yourself to oblivion. Drinking is not the only way out, there is counseling, this forum, meetings. Please try some of those to see if they may be of help.

Have you taken meds to combat the depression in the past? and are you now? When I isolate myself as I have done these past few years I think our thought have a tendency to swing out of control as we have know one to bounce them off and to help put them into perspective. If was not for this forum the only peps I have in my life are my hubby and kids I have 9 brothers and sisters thru my addiction I had cut every-body out, this forum has given me the ability to communicate honestly with people and for this I spoke to one of my sisters yesterday, talking helps Limbo

also drinking may feel like it reduces your anxiety for the time, but in the long run it will only make it worse Limbo

Are you in counseling now or have you been? Do you have family around? We make a great extended family, Self doubt is a bi$%h I do not think you have schizophrenia, My son has a friend who is in the physic ward right now dealing with schizophrenia and his thoughts are way out there, he would not be able to communicate on this forum as you are now, at least not coherently If you would like to talk I'm here a lot and so are a lot of other understanding peps Limbo

I agree that we all have thoughts of self doubt, I know I do. I also agree if you have any of those suicidal feelings that you need to talk to someone, anyone. Please, that is not the answer to anything. I hope you keep posting and talk to a Dr. about this or call a hotline as suggested. Please know that there are a lot of people that care.

Welcome to this forum. I would suggest getting some counseling or seeing a psychiatrist......do you have any issues w/ drugs, other than the drinking? Drinking is a depressant. I am a recovering alcoholic..and when i was in the last couple yrs. of my drinking...i felt the same way..I never wanted to take my life, but i felt those other things. Maybe you should stop drinking, get some counseling, and see if that makes a difference....Good Luck!

every body has self doubt in that you are not alone, I my-self wonder if I have pissed some-one off even when I have done nothing wrong. Suicide is not the answer to any-thing my little brother committed suicide it was and still is the saddest day in my life Please Please Please if you have these thoughts talk to some-one any-one come on line call the suicide help line go to any church even if you do not go there, always the next day things can change. Depression can be dealt with tru counseling, talking, I would love to know your age that way we can better help you find help Please keep posting you will find a lot of people that care about you Limbo
