stopped marijuana and now feel crappy

I stopped marijuana because at age 65 it was time. I have smoked on and off the last 40 years, but for the last 4 years I was a daily smoker.  It has been 4 days and I have no cravings but after the 1st day, I got a horrendous non stop cough, and now the cough has stopped but I am sneezing and feel like I have a minor cold, plus, I am a bit depressed and anxious in spite of Celexa.. I also have a headache.
My friends say that the cold symptoms are coincidental, but I say no. And my Celexa has suddenly given me brain zaps.
Maybe I am totally bongers, but would love feedback.

There are no Withdrawal symptoms from Marijuana cessation. What you are experiencing may be related to anxiety from stopping the herb, since Marijuana can cause psychological dependence.
I firmly believe that Marijuana- the good medical strains anyway (not Mexican brick weed that has stems and seeds) - is a very BENEFICIAL herb to the human body in ways we can't even fathom yet. Why else would the Medical establishment (Big Pharma, mainly) be fighting the legalization of the herb tooth and nail? Well, they know it would make half of their drugs obsolete, and that will cost them BILLIONS of dollars annually.
Personally, I think that if you've been smoking weed on and off for 40 years and are fine-well, I can't understand why you would want to quit, since I believe it has many health benefits.
Just my OPINION based on much research and 30+ years of experience.
I wish you the best in any scenario.

Yes there are withdrawal symptoms from long term pot use. After altering your brain's chemical make-up for so long, it is struggling to return to normal. There is no current evidence that brain zaps present any danger to the patient experiencing them; however they can be very disconcerting to those patients whom have no prior warning or knowledge of them. The longer you're away from the drug these symptoms will ease. Hang in there.

How long have you been on the AD med because as you know it does take time on that one. Plus the Pot and any Substances does so much changes in the Brain Transmitter and such that it does take time to re-adjust back from the removal of drugs and such. Just keep on keeping and it will get better but it does take time. Have Patience and that is the truth.

Hi & Welcome...

What you are experiencing are typical withdrawal symptoms. I have not known anyone to go through physical symptoms after stopping weed but you have been smoking a long time and there are bound to be changes. The depression is especially typical. If it continues you may want to have a chat with your doctor.

I suggest that you load up on vitamins and eat healthy to get your mind and body back. It never hurts and may just help you that much quicker.

Best of luck and I hope you get to feeling better soon!
