stopped vicodin today

My last 4 were about 24 hours ago. Feeling okay so far, just leg and arm cramps and some tearing. The yawning and sneezing haven't started yet. But I know they will. The thing is that I must work on Tuesday and that will only be day 4. Do you think I can do it? Will the roughest part be over by then?

I just took motrin, potassium, magnesium, milk thistle. All the recommended things. The ony thing I couldnot find is the L-tyrosine. Will it be okay?

I have plenty of imodium for I know that will set in soon.
Thanks for your advise.

Great advice! I'll check out some NA meetings or maybe AA. Yes. The demon in me is already tempting me with this twisted kind of thinking: "Well, since it wasn't that bad what with all the over-the-counter remedies, then you could always do it again!"

But truthfully, I have come off stuff in the past, valium, even H back in the 80s and never took anything to help with the WDs and it almost killed me. This was so different. Thank you Eagle and everyone for your support.

Yoiu should be in the clear if you are feeling that good..........it can last just like that if you do things correctly.  Now the bad news. The withdrawals are the easy part. You need some sort of aftercare. NA meetings, a counselor, or a Pastor - - whatever you can arrange. But do something along that line. There are online NA meetings. And the medhelp forum is also very good. But you cant just coast from here or you will be back.

Thanks to you all I was able to go to work today, my 4th day and it was okay. I actualy have not felt so good in months, which is a little scary, because at one point I was feeling almost too good. Is this common, where you feel almost high just being clean for the first time in so long?

I still took rescue remedy, mag, pot, vitamin c, milk thistle and motrin and think I will continue with all of it for awhile since I am feeling so good (the addict in me). I also started taking vitamin B12 caps today for energy. I hope I do not crash because I am loving this!

The pain you are having is still probably rebound from stopping the Vicodin. It would be safe to assume that using the Vic again will be a dangerous setback regardless of whether you think the pain is legitimate or not. You may find that you have a better tolerance for pain after you get the stuff all out of your system.

Thats a very treacherous and dangerous way to think.  1 is too many and 1000 arent enough.

Now on day 3, actually 70 hours since last dose. I cant thank you all enough for helping me through it.Without the otc ingredients I am not sure I would have made it. Since it was not as bad as I had thought, I am thinking i can take one or two vicodin just for the discomfort, legitimate pain. Maybe i won't become addicted if I keep the dose at a minimum.

Has anybody ever had really bad heartburn during WDs?

I guess the lack of overwhelming wd symptoms must be due to the potasium, magnesium, milk thistle, leg cramp herbal stuff and all the other things I read about here. Wow. Thank you guys so much for those ideas. I have done it in the past with nothing but motrin and lots of water and it was pure hell.

That is awesome! I would venture to guess that your experience won't be all that bad if that is all you are having at this point in time. You are probably at your worst now.
The 48 hour mark has already arrived and by now your worst symptoms are always present.
Relax and keep affirming your decision to get clean. Its a good idea to have a phone number of somebody who you can call incase you get overwhelming urges/cravings to use.

Maybe I can get this done afterall before Tuesday.I slept fine with benedryl and muscle relaxer but had very weird dreams. Dreamed that I took 4 hydros and wasn't sure when I woke up if it had hapened. Vivid dreaming.

Some ninor achey back and legs but with all the potassium, magnesium and stuff you guys told me to take it is not that bad. Thank you,

Don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight, but I have valerian and also benedryl. I might take some muscle relaxers since they usually knock me out. Thanks to all for your help and support. Day 2 tomorrow.

Is it possible to react differently during different episodes of withdrawals? I mean if I yawned like crazy when withdrawing before it does not mean I will have to have that particular characteristic this time?

I am having headache, hot, and some leg cramps. Still no diarreah. Oh boy, that will come tomorrow, I guess! I am going to try to not plug up with immodium unless it is absolutely unbearable so as to get rid of all the toxins.

I had bought these dissolve under your tongue tablets for leg cramps and think they might behelping.

What would have the Ltyrosine have done to help? I might try to have a friend bring some over if it will make a big difference

Thank you all so much. I am now starting to get the headache and burning inside. Also have a bad case ofheartburn but don't kow if that is related. I can still function now but know it won't last. I am hoping I can be okay on day 4 because there is no way I can not work. I am ready to givemyself tothis process of becoming clean again. I am sick and tired of it all.

Maybe I'll run out for that Ltyrosine and Rescue Remedy before it is impossible to go out. Thanks!

Try not to expect too much from yourself for the next couple of months. Feelings of fatigue and lethargy are quite normal during that period of time when opiate use is terminated. Opiates are invented for the purpose of killing pain and they are tried and tested for their success in that realm. Remember, they also kill much of our emotional pain and make much of our lives more bearable when we are on them so that the menial, boring, or even demeaning tasks, people, or places that we encounter are easier for us to tolerate. Often when I would feel my dose begin to work I would suddenly be motivated to do chores or tasks that up until moments before seemed like drudgery or seemed even overwhelming but then were suddenly actually enjoyable when I was medicated. Also, my patience and anger management is more difficult when I am clean from drugs like opiates.
I always like to step down when possible to a helper drug like Suboxen when I come off of opiates. If you are unaware of the effects and purpose of Suboxen, then there are a lot of posts on this site and there is a multitude of info and help for finding your local provider of Suboxen on the internet. Only take it as directed and with medical supervision tho as it can cause intense and immediate withdrawl if taken along with opiates or if taken too soon in the withdrawl sequence or process.
I found L-Tyrosine at GNC and, also, I and others have used a product found at GNC and other health food stores called Rescue Remedy which has a distinct calming effect and has helped with moderate degrees of insomnia and/or anxiety. I took double the dose on the label since it was suggested for moderate symptoms of insomnia and all of the herbs in the recipe are innocuous concentrations.
NA and AA meetings help immensely with removing the feelings of loneliness/ aloneness, and self pity, and also with the thinking errors that I have as an addicted person. Learning to do life without the use of drugs is hard at first and the meetings have a lot of collective experience being shared by those who have learned to do life on life's terms but without chemical peace of mind.
In short...I would definitely have a back up plan in case you feel so bad or so alone that you regret being underprepared, or regret underestimating the effects of opiate withdrawl. It can be overwhelming..... to the extent that many men and women do not make it past the 48-72 hour mark. Typically, the period of time from 48 hours to 72 hours is the biggest challenge and often will be the making or breaking point. And 5 days if often considered the minimal amount of time required to get a total physical withdrawl of the major addicting constituents in the body.
Good Luck, God Bless, and He Cares and Listens. But I always remind myself that there are natural consequences for my behaviours and that I cannot expect Him to spare me from those. But, He has always helped to lessen the effects of withdrawl when I prayed in earnest on my knees and asked Him to bless me and to give me the strength and help to make it through this difficult time.
Be Gentle with yourself and forgive yourself in advance for getting addicted too....just a suggestion.

Glad you found this forum...Lots of great info, and many nice people!!  I will just tell you about my experience since everyone's w/d's are so different...On day 3 and 4 for me, were the worst...I know (for me) I could not work on day 4...But that is not saying that you will not be able too...Let's say you take the day off?  would that be a cause to lose your job?   We all know that jobs right now are hard to keep, and hard to find already...So that does make a big difference in your plan..
Also, Have you ever tried to taper before??  Or have someone that can hold on to them, and give them as needed during a taper??
I would just hate to see you go through all these days of detox, just to start them again on tuesday..So that is why i asked if you can taper??
Also, because you are taking the 5mg's, be carefull with that much tylenol..
I wish you the best, and i know this tough, but I promise you that once you are off, and with some aftercare, you will truly be happy you did.. praying for you...

Hi. How many are you taking? I have been taking about 8-12 5/500 mgs a day for nearly two years.I've tried to quit many ties and have done so a couple of times but for just a few days then back on them again.

The truth is that if I am unable to work on Tuesday then I will probably need to start them again.

What if I go through the wds now and then take just one or two to get through work for a few days. Then finish the detox next weekend?

I am in the same boat, and I am scared.  I have quit before and I know that I cried a lot and couldn't focus.  I had some good days.  I am back on them now but I don't want to continue like this anymore.  I am going to try to ween myself off of them, I called a drug hotline and they scared me.....don't think it's going to be that bad.  The way they were descrbing it is like getting off of heroin.  I've seen heroin withdrawals and I think they are wrong.  Good luck, maybe we can be a support to one another.  LW
