suboxone induction w/out PW

Tryiing to off of methadone and herion and take suboxone w/out the dreaded PWs that everyone writes about. I wil have been off of methadone for 4 days having substituted various legal and illegal opiates to taper myself off over 40 days. now taking about 3 bags of dope a day.My master plan is to get 12 hours together clean and take about 2 mgs of suboxone and see how I react before taking prescribed dose of 8 mg. does this sound reasonable? Has anyone else tried taking small amounts prior to proper dose? I cant seem to find any reference in various forums

Google COWS chart. The way doctors are trained to avoid PW's is by using the Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale to induce subs, not an amount of time. All our bodies metabolize different, weigh different, have various organ strengths and weakness, just too many variables to set a time for sub induction. Look it up, it will explain a great deal.

I respectfully disagree.  You were using heroin to taper yourself off an opiate.  That's not rational at all.

At some point, you have to move past trying to medicate away w/ds and face your addiction.

Therel is really no right or wrong way to do these things except to approach rationally with no moral judgement involved. I waited 16 hours did one mg of suboxone to dip my foot in the water so to speak and when ok I ended up taking approx. half of the prescribed dose of 16 mg and am doing fine. Completely pain and withdrawl free.

There's no way you can rationalize using heroin to help you taper off another drug.  That's just the insanity of addiction.

At some point, you're going to have to endure SOME level of w/ds to free yourself once and for all.

Did the doctor tell you to take heroin? Anyway, from what I understand, using a small amount of opiate and then taking a small amount of SUBOXONE, without being in acute withdrawal, will cause you to go into precipitated withdrawal.  It's not so much the length of time since the last use or the amount, it's how you're feeling prior to induction. Be careful there-

THANKS FOR THE INPUT BUT BASICALLY I AM TAKING A PRESCRIBED MED AS DIRECTED BY DOCTOR. IN ORDER TO FINISH DETOX FROM METHADONE IN 40 DAYS I HAD TO TAKE Herion I got down to 5 mgs as the proper way to detox would have involved a 90 day detox. so I am taking the sub for the 3 bag a day habit I have had for about 8 days. pretty minimal stuff but as I am 62 and have other medical problems I simply cannot tolerate the pain of cold turkey for the h

Yeah, unfortunately most prescribing doctors are not very educated about suboxone. I used the COWS, from high dose methadone, which many will say is impossible. The methadone withdrawal is likely building up by now, but you were not on it too long and not too high a dose. Did you quit at 25mgs of methadone?

I had been taking about 25 mgs for 1 year and only taking the herion for about 2 months. I did a detox thru a clinic and now am off methadone completely for 4 days. I am currently using 3 bags of not very good herion a day. this is why I have minimized my risk. I was in recovery twice for over 10 years each time and do still have some support but no one is familiar with suboxone like that. Thanks for advice though. I will take it to heart

Oh, I just wanted to add, I know you can't see yourself real clear right now, so I'm gonna be a mirror. You are trying to form the Master Plan, to figure it all out and get it done, but there is a certain amount of surrender involved, actually quit a bit of surrender for me. I couldn't control it, that was the problem. I spent 2 1/2 years forming Master Plans, but it wasn't until I went out and got some help to deal with the mental and emotional wreck I was in, did I finally surrender the the misery of detox to get to the serenity of a new life. So, I'm curious about a couple things. How much methadone you been taking and how long? That is the harder of the 2 drugs you are taking to detox. Do you have a Master Plan for the mental and emotional detox, any aftercare? That is the one thing, across the board, that I see people who succeed get involved with.

All i read is how your substituting various drugs with other drugs??? Am i reading wrong? Methadone and heroin? Looking at the post above i would suggest inpatient drug detox and counseling for minimum of 90 days. You cant keep avoiding w/d effects with other addictive drugs....it doesnt work. In fact, im going to reread this post cause i want to make sure i read it write???

Suboxone can be a valuable tool in a comprehensive recovery program, but it isn't a magical fix to avoid w/ds unfortunately.  There is a lot of factors to consider when making the decision to use suboxone.

If you DO choose the sub route, do it right, with a doctor, and a recovery plan that includes therapy (usually individual then group therapy in a sub clinic).  With sub, less is better.  There is an adjustment period after the induction, and it isn't uncommon to feel some mild w/d symptoms (bearable ones).  That doesn't mean you need a higher dose (that's where a lot of people go wrong).

This is why it's truly best to go through a clinic, rather than trying to do it yourself...that's really just more addict/self medicating behavior.  People like to fool themselves thinking that because it's sub, it's recovery.  Not always true.

Best of luck to you.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. There is lots of advice and support here. I do not have any personal experience with Sunoxone, so I can't advise you that. But there are members here who do have experience, and they will be along soon to comment. Is the Suboxone prescribed to you by a doctor? If so, I would take it exactly as the doctor instructed.

Hang in there, others will be along to weigh in.  Take care, I wish you all the best.
