the smell and lack of sleep

I recently stop using oxi 40's, maybe 5 to 8 a day, for the last 6 years or so, but also abused lots of drugs in the 60's, but never had a drug get a hold on me. Finally broke down and told my wife of 31 years who never did drugs. It has been since last thursday my last binge of snorting, all the usaual wd's, but now all I CAN SMELL IS A BAD ODOR,and very little sleep, do you think it is because I have snorted or is it just the drugs comming out of me. My wife is amazing staying up and just supporting me and all these years I was so afraid I would loose her. I have to sleep and until now I not taken any type of sleeping aid, she wants me to take melotonin instead of advil pm or my first choice would be ambien .Would anyone have a thought about the two problems I am having?

When you come off narcotics you usually smell a nasty metallic smell like a penny... Most drs won't know, it used to be the first sign id need to take a pill. but its common WD side affect of a oxi addiction withdrawal. The copper smell is literally the oxy leaving out ur skin... The higher dose u were on before u quit the stronger it'll be. I used to have trouble sleeping because of that damn smell!

Valarian helped me sleep, at least after the first week was out the way. For the first 8 days I had practically no sleep at all and I don't think anything short of concussion would have made any difference.

Day 38 now and my sleep is near normal.

norcoqueen -- I had the bad taste thing pretty bad.. I am a smoker and even my cigarettes tasted awful during detox.. I remember smoking a LOT less during that time cause of the terrible taste.  For me the single longest lasting symptom was goosebumps.  I will forever hate goosebumps lol

Oh the SMELLS and the LACK OF SLEEP.. just two of the NEVER seeming to END symtoms of getting CLEAN...

A good note though is that both of those symtoms DO RETURN to NORMAL... it just takes a while....

It's funny though that you made me REMEMBER the SMELL thang!  I remember asking my husband if my SKIN smelled FUNNY?  He said NO.. but I just think back as my skin had a kinda sweet, sick smell to it... part of the detox thing.. as in your body trying to CLEANSE itself from the drugs...

I don't have that SMELL anymore and my sleep has returned to what I THINK is normal.... I'm working on 88 days clean and life is finally good... still lack the Mo-Joe but with a little exercise EVERYDAY and having a GREAT husband, AWESOME son, and the worlds GREATEST HORSE... life is GOOD!
Just remember that THIS TOO... SHALL PASS... and you will SLEEP and you WILL NOT SMELL... (unless, of course.. you're not taking a shower everyday..)

God Bless you sweet pea...
and.. keep posting as we can ALL offer GREAT advice and help you in any way that we can...

Love and Hugs your way!

Yes the smells were bad for a long time.  I still smell certain things occasionally that send me back to 9 mos ago.  The sleep problems, oh yeah, I remember them well.  After  11 days with no sleep, I finally got dr to give me 12 Lunesta, just enough to break the cycle.  Once you  break the cycle the sleep will start to come much easier.  At that time I would go to the Melatonin, it probably won't help much right now, at least it didn't
help me when I was at the spot where you are now.  Hang in there and you will make it through.  Just cant ever even consider giving in to it.  Not an option.  Best of luck.

Hey there.  Having bad smells in your nose, and even bad taste in your mouth is pretty common.  It will go away in time.  You are very luck to have such a supportive wife.  I am happy you have someone there to help.  I would suggest the melatonin.. see if that works for sleep.  Benadryl may also be helpful.  Try to catch sleep when you can.  Sleep is usually the last thing to return to normal, but you will eventually even out.  Good luck.
