understanding Methodone

my husband is on a script for methadone, he is taking 9 (10mg)  tablets a day.. one of his friends told him
he should mix his tablets in warm water to disolve it and then drink it. Is this true.  ????
Also he has to quit and needs to be clean in order to get a truck driving job, we need to know how long the methodone will stay in system in order to pass his urine test.. then he can continue taking them once he starts working.If he stays on it and
only takes it at night when he's finished driving, how much would he be affeted the next day???

methadone is a very hard drug to kick but it can be done if your husband is taking 90mils a day he is going to go through some nasty wd methadone stays in your system 4 some time i am sure.is he wanting to go through wd and than start again? how long has he been on it and no i dont think you should put it in water than drink it

The meth clinic here gives it in tablets that are about the size of an alkaseltzer tab and you do break them up in water like alkaseltzer, if he's trying to stop H, he's just adding another monkey, and he won't be able to stop meth long enough to pass a drug test, and that's alot of methadone, so please don't let him drive on my road w/ an 18 wheeler. Read in the health pages on how to withdraw from opiates and just kick the H, it will be all over sooner.

In regards to the water, yes I have been their, done it, but the only reason was because was being dosed by a nurse while on was on what they call, the wafers, they are big white methadone pills not something you wish to swallow whole, thier much to big, other then for that reason, I see no other logical reason behind his friends advise? Anyway you cut it, swallow it, drink it, at the end of the day, its still methadone that you are on, & if he,s on this high of a dose, he is gonna be in trouble if he trys to go down on his dose to fast, trust me I know this, as its taken one year of hard work & many, many hard knocks for me to go from 90mgs down to zero. He needs to be titrated down off this ever so slow, if he jumps off to fast, he will sufer for months, as methadone has a much longer half life, versus other opiates. He will also need lots of support, & tlc. I wish you two the best of luck.   Penelope

Your husband will not be able to even go to take a drug test by the time the methadone is out of his system..That is a very very nasty w/d. I jumped off of 65mg/dy..I was very sick for several weeks and then just able to barely function for another 5. I will be free from that horrid drug for 2 yrs this aug1..How long has he been on it? Also I never took it in pill form so I would take the advice/warnings from others about the whole water thing.best of luck to you and your husband. it's not impossible to get off of..but for him to be clean to take a drug test he will most likely not be able to even handle himself because of the withdrawals..I don't meam to scare you but you and he needs to know the truth..

AT THE CLINIC I GO TO, THEY PUT IT IN A SMALL CUP OF WARM WATER THEN HAND IT TO US AND WATCH US DRINK IT ALL. IT IS OK TO DO THAT BECAUSE IT IS IN UR SYSTEM FASTER. HOW LONG IT STAYS IN UR SYSTEM IM NOT SUR BUT IF HE QUITS ALL AT ONCE HE WILL BE HURTIN FUR SURE LIKE THEY R SAYING WITH AWFUL WD SYMPTOMS. IM ON 90MG TO HE  SHOULD TELL THEM AND IT SHOULD BE OK IF HE DOES HAVE SCRIPT FOR THEM. SOMEONE TOLD ME THEIR WORK GAVE A DRUG TEST AND IT DIDNT SHOW BECAUSE U HAVE TO TEST FOR METHADONE FOR IT TO SHOW BUT THATS JUST WHAT I HEARD. IF HE HAS A SCRIPT THEN WHY IS HE WORRIED? WILL THEY NOT HIRE HIM?

Can I ask why does his daughter want to take them?? That is not good. one persons dose is anothers death..Please don't let anyone take them..If she is in some kind of pain she'd be way better off going to the DR..and trying motrin first..even a hydro..not methadone..
