First Time being Really Sick without Meds

Yesterday, I realized that I have strep throat. I feel terrible. My fever has been around 103, and my throat is almost swollen shut. Considering I was recently arrested for doctor shopping, you can imagine how much I do not want to go to a doctor. I have some amoxicillin. It would be nice to get a steroid shot or something, but I am way to terrified to see a physician. Most of them wouldn't see me anyway.

In the past, I would use strep throat as am excuse to get Vicodin. I would pill up and lie in bed. Now, I just feel like road kill. This really *****. Oh, I almost forgot to add that my husband is actually mad at me for getting sick. He thinks it is all my fault because I didn't take care of myself. He has been outside working all day, so he has not given me any help with our twins. I have a 103 degree temp, and all he has done is yell and me and leave me to take care of the babies alone. FML!!!

I feel much better today. Thank you all for caring. I had a full course of antibiotics. They were prescribed recently when I was "shopping" for lack of a better term. They were not expired. I know myself well enough to know that I definitely had strep, and amoxcicillin is what I was always given for that. Yesterday I basically watched the kids play while my husband worked detailing someone's car in the garage. So I didn't touch them much. I am so worried that they will get sick, and their birthday is this weekend. If they show any signs of illness, I will take them in immediately. I just didn't want to take myself because I feel that I need to tell any physician who treats me in the future than I am an addict. I just feel I am not ready to face a physician yet. Plus I have burned most of them that are in my area. I don't even know where I would go.But I do feel better now, so that issue can wait until another day.

First, I would like to address this comment. Of course I want a better life for my children. I know that I have messed up royally, and I am in treatment and doing better every day. I cannot change the past. I can only change the person I am in the here and now. My children will go to the doctor if they so much as cough. I feel crummy enough about what I have done without you commenting about my children growing up with a mom that has "these problems'. Unfortunately, I cannot change the fact that I am an addict and always will be, but I can choose to not take any drugs for the rest of my life, and that is what I will do. Not what I will attempt to do, but what I WILL do.

One more thing:   You said you have "some amoxicillin."  I assume this is leftover meds from a previous illness?  Please do not take them.    For several reasons:

1. You need a FULL course, and only a doctor can decide what that is.
2. Expired antibiotics an be very dangerous.
3. You are not a doctor; don't diagnose yourself.

103 is a high fever, but not high enough to fry your brain or cause seizures in most folks.  Take some Tylenol to bring it down, but GET your fanny to a doctor, swallow your fears and pride, and do the right thing for your children.  And whatever you do, DON"T take any pain meds.  Strep throat almost never warrants opiates unless you are over-stating your pain and have a stressed out doctor who is carelessly prescribing.

Strep throat, If that is what you have, is not a virus, it is a bacteria, and a bad one.  Left untreated, it can travel to your heart and leave you with valve problems.  You MUST get antibiotics and take them ALL.  And watch your babies carefully because now they have been exposed too.  If they show any signs of illness, take them to their pediatrician and tell them you had strep while caring for them.

You are young...way too young to get mixed up with opiates.  Its a road to HELL, honey, trust me.  Just don't do it.   I would also look into some counseling...you have multiple issues going on with doctor shopping, marital troubles, etc.  Do you really want your kids growing up with a mom who has these problems?  They didn't ask to be born; go a hospital, they cannot refuse to treat you, and ask to speak to someone from Social Services.  Then tell them the TRUTH---everything.  They won't judge.  Love your kids enough to want a better life for them.

For adults 103 fever is way high and bad. Get to ER. Have them put u on antibiotics. U definitely don't want your babies to get this. Please! !  Ypur hubby sounds like a true addict piece of work. Hang in there get to Dr. U r doing so great. So proud! !!!

Your husband makes me mad.  Sorry, but it's true.  I can only imagine how you must feel.  You have strep and a high fever.  This is contagious and how can your husband not help you?  You are exposing your children to what can be a dangerous viral infection.  Please go to the ER and get some anti-biotics pronto.  Don't mess with this.  And tell your husband if he doesn't shape up I am going to come down there and personally kick his a$$ (Once I recover from this surgery)
Seriously honey.  They are going to treat you with antibiotics not painkillers.  Try to drink as much fluid as possible.  It's no wonder you are so sick as you have been under an enormous amount of stress.
I'm sorry this is happening to you.

get to the doctor and get treated.  just don't ask and don't accept any narcotics

I agree with IBKleen...doctor time for sure.  When I was not under pill influence...IE before I knew they existed..never took one for strep, etc.  Lots of soup, tea, and antibiotics.  I have never had a doc ask me if I wanted pain pills for strep, etc.  I think you will be fine.  See a doc.  Hope you feel better soon.
