You are wise to be concerned.  My husband was on hydrocodone for a few months while waiting to have hip surgery, and he got so constipated, that he ended up with a perforated colon.  He nearly died.

It is very important to keep your bowels moving.  Talk to you doctor about the best way to do this....a high fiber diet, LOTS of water, and a laxative like Miralax is what his doctor told him.

Do you take opiates for a specific condition?  Will you be on them for life?  If so, this is something you have to get a handle on...good luck..

Yes I remember the horrible constipation. Laxatives never worked for me. It's funny the only thing that did was a very large glass of warm prune juice. I'd go within 2-3 hours completely emptying me. I'd have to do that every 3 days. I was on oxycodone for 11 years and been off for just over 3 months. I did it cold turkey with the help of this web forum and AA meetings. How long have you been using and what do you take? Do you think there is a possibility of you be able to quit cold turkey?
