This time it will happen! Oral surgery in the morning

Tomorrow will be my third time going to this surgeon to have an infected molar extracted. I have been sober for 46 days and for 46 days my mouth has been killing. The Oxy I took for years masked the pain I should have been feeling in my mouth. 8 cavities one root canal and a tooth extraction needing repair all brewing and now I must pay the price. In the morning I will hopefully be put to sleep during the procedure. If the nurse is unable to get my IV in I have resigned myself to having it pulled while awake. I need this to be over with. Those who have followed my posts know my concerns regarding recovery post-op, but for those who may be reading one of my posts for the first time, I worry about post-op pain. Once again I will be faced with the option of pain medication if I feel I need it. A few of my close friends (sorry I have been so quiet this week friends) suggested having hubby, hold the script, only get one or two pills just in case I may need them, or refusing a prescription from the doctor so I will not be tempted. All great advice, and I will talk with the doctor before the surgery to figure out what is best for my situation. This tooth gets pulled one way or another tomorrow, and then it will be in my past.

Very new to the site, first time reading your post but on april 7th I went in myself for oral surgery. my 2 back molars needed to be taken out because they were EXTREMELY rotten and were breaking apart. This being said, they first 24 hours were pretty rough. I was put to sleep for the procudure and then when I woke up was frozen for most of the day. Only thing I got for this was mortin and t3's. After the first 2 days I didn't bother with the 3's. Lets keep in mind I have my own problems with addiction which might have helped me mask the pain.....I did however feel pain from other parts because I had complications that did not pertain to the extraction site. Those were EXTREMELY painful, even with the doses of drugs I take daily, did nothing to help ease that. IF your procedure is straight forward, you have no complications and are in recovery from being an addict, my personal advice ( which probably isn't worth too much) would be get something VERY weak, like something with codeine, and yes have someone hold them so you DO NOT have direct access. Right now I am looking into treatment for myself and the issues Im facing. With you being sober I cannot even imagine what a struggle that was. I congratulate you on this, it is really an amazing thing! Do whatever you have to do to make sure you continue on the path you want to be on :) I do know many people that have gotten teeth pulled and not used anything stronger than OTC medicines, you can do this! The discomfort you may feel will only last a week if that!

Don't worry too much about the pain (ha ha easier said than done, right?) Just do what we talked about and you will be fine, if that is necessary.
