Can you help give me advice to control anexity?

So basically I've had an EKG, a chest X-ray , a halter monitor , and blood work done because of chest pain I've been having these all came back clear. I was put on Lexapro for anexity and a nonchest burning for my chest. I began waking up at night in panic where my heart beats very fast and is scary. Do you think this is from the lexapro , my heart , or anexity ?

Anxiety spikes. your body might need time to adjust the medication or you need to adjust the dose/medication. Good luck enjoy the process of figuring out what works its a long long road... I think an benzo would be better though..

Well, I disagree with the ideas that it might be the med. You were anxious about your heart before the med to the point you imagined "symptoms" that the doc said did not exist, and are still anxious, so I doubt it is the med that is making the symptoms.

Many anxiety sufferers over-analyze their body when they think something is wrong as you do and become more fearful as they think about it so they sweat and tense up which makes it seem like new "symptoms" are showing up, which naturally frightens you even more in a vicious circle of fear and "symptoms."
You will find many people on the anxiety board who have gone to er thinking something is wrong with their heart, totally in fear only to be told nothing is wrong. Been there, done that, and you are another newbie to this situation.

I immediately stopped worrying when the ER doc said if I had real heart problems this long I would have been dead, and my "symptoms" left immediately - for good.

Accepting the diagnosis is the only way to shake heart anxiety, but some people just can't give up on the idea that the doctor missed something. Therapy is a good choice as long as you can relax enough to think things through, but you might find an anxiety med is needed to give you enough relief to settle down during the therapy.

Call your doctor. Although your cardio work up came back normal, maybe the medication is not the right one for you. Try going to a psychiatrist and seek out therapy.

You say your heart checks out fine.  The new thing is the Lexapro, so yes, it could be the new drug.  Some people respond to certain antidepressants with a lot of stimulation, so this might not be the right one for you.  I wonder, though, how bad is your anxiety and how badly is it affecting your life?  I ask because I'm wondering, if you're still functioning okay, why nobody recommended a therapist before trying medication?
