Mild long-term vertigo

Hi there !

Hi there!

My question is... can anxiety cause constant dizziness and spinning vertigo? I have heard anxiety and the vesitublar system overlap.

I am 18 and have had untreated mild generalized anxiety for years. I recently went travelling and had a flare up of anxiety. Since then I have had problems with dizziness and vertigo. For 5 months I have been off balance and started getting spins leaving me in bed. I have never had this before. I have been cleared by a neurologist and ENT doctor.

So now I am at the conclusion it is physiological. Even though my anxiety is under control currently and I have been home in a sick leave for weeks, the spins still occur and the woozy head is still present almost all of the time.

I guess all I can think of is that I have unconscious and anxiety that is undealt with that is manifesting itself in me physically and causing constant dizziness. Is that possible? I feel crazy and hopeless.

Any comment is appreciated, thanks for reading! Hope all is well :)

Cheers

Hi,
I have kind of the same feeling of dizziness and no doctor can tell me what causes it. I have a mild problem with anxiety and i am in a very stressfull period in my life. Still, my shrink told me that she thinks that there might be a physical problem, that gets bigger with anxiety and stress. I just have to find it.
How are you now?

I have been dealing with vertigo and dizziness for 5 years and have been to every dr there is and had all kinds of test run and all came back ok....so they think its just anxiety which at the time I didnt think so but as time has gone on I have developed anxiety and depression because of the dizziness.....its very debilitating with vertigo...I lost my job because of it and now all I do is stay home....very sensitive to meds and right now they are trying me on paxil for the 3rd time and i am so sick from it but I am trying to hang on and get thru the side effects of the drug....I look like death warmed over....I do believe anxiety can cause dizziness but I dont know what to tell you to do to stop it cause I have been working on this for over 5 years now and not one dr can tell me anything....

I hope you dont get like me to the point you dont want to leave the house cause of fear of getting dizzy.....I just dont know what to do anymore and I know what you mean about feeling hopeless cause when you dont know what to do and the drs dont know what else can you do....all I can tell you is to keep pushing thru with different drs and maybe you will come across one that will have the answer....if you do please let me know....I hope you get to feeling better soon...maybe you need to try an anti-depressant and see if it helps you or not....only a suggestion.....but I have a hard time with them as alot of people do but you may do fine....hope all get better for you.....keep us informed ok...

God Bless
