Help

I work at a prison and have had very bad depression for a long time the other night at work i broke and started crying for hours i finely got the nerve to talk to my wife she took me to the doctor where after a very good session they suggested I take a month off work although I have worked in the field for 18 years i have only been here for 6 months so short term does not cover me so I have to make a decision work under overwhelming stress or go without a payday any ideas.

Can you financially survive a month hiatus?  Does your wife work?  Can you talk to your commanding officer?  Transfer?

Doctors can fill out a form (forget what it is called) to document problem.  Employers are obliged to deal with issues.

You might try a therapist instead of a doctor -- maybe you can talk it out.

Hi r2, will i dont blame you for being depressed working in that envirornment. You are surrounded with total negativity and you are absorbing some of it as you are very sensitive and caring person. Make no mistake, but i blieve we pick up the vibes of who we are around and can be affected by them. Sometimes we have to suck it up for financial reasons. What i would do is offset some of the negativity with thoughts of a future goal. With 18 years in that industry, you have a wealth of knowlege that can be shared with society. I think a book is in order about your lifes experience and im sure if presented correctly would be a best seller listing. Also you can take one or 2 of the cases you know about and write a movie topic. Truman Capoty became famous with his story called "in cold blood". Think about this as i know you will be a success with this in the near future. Try keeping a note book and jot down some of the more interesting things going on.
Just hang in there for now and try not to mix what your witnessing personally, use this experience instead for your advantage. Your sitting on a gold mine.
