Hi there, I know what you are going thru. I stopped taking klonopin for a few months, and the last few weeks I have been going out of my mind! Finally went to the er and they gave me a rx until I can see my doctor. It really is a life saver when it comes to your mental and emotion health..Take Care :)

I feel the same way as Irishred.  Total life saver.  It mostly makes me mellow, rather than sleepy.  If I'm totally exhausted already then yes it can make me more tired.  But for the most part I operate much better on klonopin then w/out it and I don't feel like I need to sleep while I'm on it....unlike something like say Benadryl.  I mostly feel best between hours 1 and hours 3 after taking klonopin btw, for whatever that's worth.

I take Klonopin twice a day. Once in the morning than in the evening. The first few days it made me very drowsy but then my body adjusted to it and I am not so tired anymore. It actually gave me an appetite since the anxiety was causing me no appetite at all....could not eat a anything. Klonopin has been a life saver for me.

Typically, a person will get the best use of Klonopin when it is taken regularly, every day, as it is a long acting benzodiazepine that builds in the blood plasma.  If you need more of a rescue med to take here or there for anxiety, a shorter acting benzo, like Ativan, or Xanax, is best.  Is a psychiatrist prescribing the Klonopin for you, or a PCP?

Taking it at night is fine with the way it is prescribed.  2 per day as needed, means you CAN take up to a total of TWO 0.5mg doses per day.  That doesn't mean you automatically take them.  If you are feeling drowsy, then obviously, a nighttime dose is optimal.

If you just need something here and there, I would really recommend asking your doctor about a shorter acting benzo versus the Klonopin.  Klonopin tends to be a little more heavy hitting too.  I was prescribed it once, versus the Ativan I normally take as needed, and it really knocked me out!  Definitely don't take it before you need to drive, or so anything like that, until you adjust to it.

Best of luck to you!

Hello and welcome!

Yes, Klonopin can make you drowsy, especially at first, before you've really adjusted to it.  How is the Klonopin prescribed, and for what?  As for the appetite issue, I haven't really ever heard that it does either. Obviously, everyone is different.  Some people have very sensitive stomachs, and a new med may cause a bit of nausea or stomach upset...but as a rule, I don't believe Klonopin typically affects the appetite either way.

Best of luck!
