Xanax questions

My doctor prescribed me Xanax to help w/ panic attacks I've been experiencing.  What's the big deal w/ the abuse of this drug?  It does nothing more than make me terribly sleepy!  I thought I'd be able to take this medication during the day when the attacks hit me, but w/ a two-year-old that seems impossible!  Any hints or suggestions?  I cannot imagine someone becoming addicted to this medication!  I guess I was expecting a "warm, fuzzy" feeling, but in turn I've felt nothing more than extremely exhausted!

What time of day to you take your Xanax?  What strength to you take?  I am on 0.5 mg every 6-8 hrs -- as needed.  Do you take it on an empty tummy or after a meal?  Please e-mail directly if you don't mind, and please give me the "ins-&-outs" of your experience w/ this particular anxiety medication.  I have most of my panic attacks during the daytime hours, so if I am going to get so sleepy then it's basically going to be a drug that simply will not work for the use in which I need it.  Help!  I really appreciate any info you may be able to provide from your own personal experiences.  My private e-mail address that I post to forums is "***@****" -- I know that screen name is nuts, but we are huge SEC football fans -- I was born and raised in Arkansas (Razorbacks) and my hubby is a huge Alabama fan, thus the second half being "bama".  Just thought I'd throw in the extra tid-bit so you didn't think I was into razorblades or something nuts like that -- LOL!!  Anyway, please help me understand Xanax, and also help me understand if I could possibly just not been prescribed the meds I need.

That's prob a good thing you don't like them.  I've been on them for 10 years, and very addicted.  "praying4MiniMe" couldn't be more right on.
It really seems to be a "wonder drug", but I NEVER never thought I'd be where I'm at now, even a year ago.  Be careful.  Do your research on the net on ANY drug the docs want to prescribe you.
good luck to you!

it took me a year and a half to get off xanax, I had horrible withdrawl symptoms and it got so bad that I would get very light headed and faint sometimes. I switched to klonopin, which isn't much better, now I am trying to wean myself off of the klonopin, but I have withdrawl symptoms as well. Be careful with xanax, it can be a horrible drug!

Same here!
I took it for 5 days..and stopped for 3days (till now), and am feeling terrible, light-headed,tired, anxious..
However I must admit when I take it, it's like a miracle pill.
