Ty, nursegirl and mammo for teaching me something new! :)
There is a condition known as "burning mouth syndrome" that causes symptoms like yours. You need to see your doctor and dentist to determine the cause and course of treatment. This can be caused by a variety of reasons, nutrient deficiencies, underactive thyroid, allergies or reactions to foods especially highly acidic ones, food additives, dyes, flavorings, over-use of mouth rinses, overbrushing of your tongue, anxiety or depression and acid reflux. See your doctor and go from there. Best wishes!
Hello and welcome!
Actually, yes, this is possible. Chronic or severe anxiety can lead to dry mouth, which can cause irritation of the oral cavity. Before chalking up the symptoms to anxiety, it's always a good idea to be assessed by your doctor first, to rule out any possible physical/medical reasons for your symptoms.
There could be a number of things that could cause what you are explaining...anything from thrush, food allergies, eating highly acidic or spicy foods, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and even some medications can cause this.
This is a new one for me. It cant be an allergic reaction because that would affect your entire body, not just your mouth. If you chew the pills, that may cause irritation.... I can't think of any other reason for this. - Blu
