The most important part of your post is where you said you made an appt to see your therapist soon. That's such a huge part of getting this to a manageable level. Up until now, it only sounds like you "sort of' participated in the therapy process. It sounds like you didn't rally have your heart in it completely. You really have to dig your heels in and work at it. Do the things your therapist recommends, go into those appointments ready to learn, and ready to work.
We have a fantastic OCD community here at MH. I urge you to check that out as well. I think you'll find it very helpful.
Best of luck to you, you can do it!
It is OK. I have done the same thing, years ago. I remember it well. You know you did not hit the guy, in your gut. Trust your gut. Trust what makes sense. Your car is not torn up from an accident, you went back twice to make sure you did not hit him, now trust yourself. Rest easy. It is OK. Try some deep breathing and relaxation tecniques if you know any. Mainly, just know that you did a very good job and you were a good citizen. It is over now. Write back if you need to. WendyJones
Hi,
You have no need to worry because you are right you did nothing wrong.. You did not hit the man on his skateboard and he is perfectly fine.. I know it's hard to control the obsessive thoughts because I too deal with them.. Like for instance whenever I am driving and turn right on red I panic that I may have ran over or hit someone that I didn't see I want to turn around but I don't allow myself too because I know I didn't actually hit someone instead I will do something called EFT (emotional freedom technique) and it helps calm me down I recommend you look it up... But again I want to reassure you that you did nothing wrong and everything will be ok.. Hang in there and know that you are not alone.. I am always here if you need someone to talk with
