Ductal hyperplasia?

Hi im 27 yrs old. i had a small operation 1 yr ago, they removed small lump (12mm size) their finding -excision biopsy " fibrocystic changes with ductal hyperplasia". I read some acticle about breast , Is it true that if you have history of ATYPICAL DUCTAL HYPERPLASIA theres a high risk having breast cancer. Is this similar in my previous result FIBROCYSTIC CHANGES WITH DUCTAL HYPERPLASIA. I need an explanation please.... coz im scared.
Godbless

Thanks!

My Result 1yr ago

HISTOPATHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS: Breast mass, Right: Excision
* Fibrosystic change with ductal hyperplasia and Tubular Adenosis
* Fibroadenoma

Is this the same as atypical ductal hyperplasia? Can you explain to me what is Ductal Hyperplasia, and is that normal?

Sorry if i have too many questions,

Thanks
Vg

Hi there.

I understand your concern.  A history of atypical ductal hyperplasia may indeed increase one's risk of developing breast cancer in the future.  Your biopsy findings did not say if the hyperplasia is typical or atypical and I think you may have to clarify this with the pathologist.  Even if it were atypical ductal hyperplasia, I suggest you relax as this does not automatically mean that you will develop breast cancer.  You may just be advised to have more frequent assessments or screening using mammogram or ultrasound.  I suggest you discuss all of these things with your doctors.  Regards and God bless.
