Need Help!

Hi,
I'm 37 and recently had an excisional biopsy of my right breast due to a presence of micro calcifications on my mamo.
I went to my post op appointment with my doctor, he took my bandages off, left my pathology report on the chair and took off without further discussion.  My mind needs a little easing to say the least!  Here are the findings:
Atypical lobular hyperplasia
Proliferative fibrocystic change and hyalinized stroma
Clustered calcium oxalate calcifications in association with apocrine metaplasia
Here are my questions:
What does all this mean?  Can this mutate into cancer?  Am I at risk?  If yes, are there preventative measures I can take?
I am appreciative of any feedback I can get and I thank you so very much in advance...xx Sofia135

Hi,
I am horrified at the treatment you recieved from your Dr.  This makes me so angry.  I have learned since getting Cancer that we have to be our own advocates.  We pay the Dr.'s they don't pay us.  I will not let any Dr. leave my room until all my questions have been answered.  That man should never have left you hanging there when you were scared.  My suggestion....switch Dr.'s and start speaking up and advocating for yourself.
I am glad you are ok and hope the next time you see this guy you give him a swift kick!!!!

Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia is not cancer & not pre-cancerous. Fibrocystic Breast Condition is a benign condition that occurs in about 50% of women. The Apocrine Metaplasia is associated with increased estrogen presence which goes along with the Fibrocystic Condition. The Microcalcifications you already knew about ... these little specks of calcium represent the response of the breast tissue to something that is abnormal within the breast .. NOT cancer; just not normal. If I may comment on your Dr.s action ..... I would have been running down the hall with report in hand yelling "Hey, wait a minute; we're not done !" Speak up girl ... DO NOT allow yourself to be treated in such a manner ... this is very poor medical practice. Can we lighten things up here for a minute ?? Maybe he didn't know what it meant; now that's a scary thought. Just thought you might need a smile.  Did the office make you a return appointment or were you just dismissed ?? If you do go back I'd certainly make this the first order of business and demand an explanation.  Kindest regards .....

Wow, I'm so sorry you were left with that kind of information without explanations.  Did you speak to your dr or nurse about what it said?  I'm not a pathologist, so I can't really interpret the results for you.  I hope someone else who does have that kind of expertise can jump in with some answers.

I guess one of my reactions is that if there were something to really be acutely concerned with, the dr. would have discussed it with you.  I understand your need to understand all the information, however.  That's completely understandable and reasonable.

I hope you can get your answers. If we can help with more, please keep asking questions!

Warmly,

Chris
