clamps or stitches?

I am about to have a full hysterectomy to remove cancer of the uterus. I have been told that the surgeon used to seal the top of the vagina with clamps, but now simply sews it up instead. Does anyone know anything about the pros and cons of each procedure?

Hi.  The use of clamps instead of stitches allow the surgeon to finish the operation sooner.  There are also claims that the use of clamps results in a faster healing time for the wound, but I think if your surgeon is very skilled, the type of seal, whether clamps or stitches, would not matter.
