Dillan has problems

I took him in today to be checked up by a vet. I got him from the shelter 4 days ago so knowing this....I was aware of the risks. Well...here are the results. Dillan has an upper respiratory infection. Dillan also has ear infection and is being treated right now with Tresaderm. Lastly, they found an area under the chin with no hair and all scratched up and itchy. They collected samples and the results will be in sometime.....in like 20 days. They suspect 2 things: Ringworm or my cat, Abby, scratching him  when playing with him. If Dillan has ringworm they might report that and take him away from me. Ringworm is extremely contagious.

His UTI symptoms are only sneezing. The vet said she would not give me any meds to give Dillan because the cold is very mild. I am terrified my older cat will get infested. Keeping Dillan isolated is no use as Abby has already been exposed to it although he isn't showing signs of UTI (perhaps his immune system is strong enough?)

Is it really fair that they may take away my cat if he has ringworms? I can treat it with the help of a vet! I know it is highly contagious but is it really necessary to take away my cat just like that? I don't want to seem ridiculous, but I want my cat with me. Are they being fair here?

You're completely right, MJ. I should have done that with Dillan. But I saw him so healthy looking. He wasn't sneezing when he got here. But who knew the virus was already in him ready to come out.  I got him here by my side getting heat from a lamp. He loves cozy, warm places. Abby just enjoys the cold. He HATES hot weather.

I got Abby saying "gna gna, ma ma" (don't ask) because he wants to go out now. I am trying to convince him that with his cold, going out will only make it worse, no to mention the fact that it's freezing (to me) outside and I refuse to stay down there for one hour.

What happened to those rats is just awful. Is that on th small animals community? I want to check it out.

If you do adopt another sick animal, this time make sure to isolate him/her for a longer peroid, that way don't risk getting your other cats sick.

Even when "adopting" new African violets they stress isolating any new plants from the old ones for several months. That way if one has mites or other nasty things, it doesn't spread and wipe out the entire collection.

These are plants, but isolating new animals for a set time period doesn't sound like a bad thing either. In another community someone raised and bred rats.  She had a new arival and everything seemed fine... then later all of a sudden it got sick and died and that disease nearly wiped out all the rats she had.  It's a painful lesson sometimes.

Dillan is on Clavamox right now for that cold. It's true. when I took him to the vet on Tuesday they didn't give me anything for his cold. The next day they called to find out how he was doing and that's when they gave me the antibiotics. So far, it looks like Dillan doesn't suffer the side effects, like diarrhea. But I will talk to the vet about Ab's diarrhea. She may prescribe something else. They called Abby's vet today and they faxed Abby's records. So if they don't see that my cat has had diarrhea issues all his life I don't know what to tell you lol. Right?

I need peace man.....I need my felines to be healthy see if I can see the light once again :)

I can't wait for this to be over, and have them both healthy and big.

Then I'll go back to the shelter and adopt another sick animal LOL LOL

Honestly, I am shocked that the vet didn't put Dillan on antibiotics when he was there.  As we both know, cats do not get plain old virus colds that we get.  When they're sneezing it is usually bacterial.  They can sneeze from allergies, too, but if Ab had allergies you would've seen it much sooner than this!

I think both of them should be on antibiotics.  I'm not a huge fan of Clavamox because it can make some kitties to throw up, get nauseous, and have diarrhea.  Skunkie is fine on it, but the other 2 cats I had couldn't tolerate the stuff.  I've never had a problem with Baytril, the other most common antibiotic for cats.  God knows, you don't want Abster with diarrhea ever again!!

He can breathe. His nose isn't stuffy. Dillan's nose isn't stuffy either. Their only symptom is sneezing. I am constantly spraying Lysol. They sneeze, I spray, they sneeze, I spray lol

ZQ, do you think Clavamox will help?
