Welcome To the Cat Forum: 1st Timers Please View:

Welcome to the Feline Community, a forum for seeking help and advice from each other in all issues regarding cat physical and mental health.

(We also discuss other things not cat related. We’re an open minded bunch around here. At least, the humans are, I can’t speak for the cats. They don't seem inclined to discuss things, at least on-line).

Please note that this is not a veterinarian advice forum, for Veterinarian advice, try the expert forum. If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, take your cat to a vet.

(Keep in mind that many areas offer low or no cost vet services. Contact your local A.S.P.C.A. for information about possible free vet services in your area).

As the Cat Community Leader, Savas hopes to make this a helpful, enjoyable, even fun experience.

Savas has 15 years experience in rescue work, fosterage and adoption/ placement of cats and is happy to offer what advice he can for your cats’ well being, as are many others here.

Remember however that on-line advice or help on medical issues lacks the thoroughness that an in person evaluation can provide.

That said, enjoy your visit and we hope y’all come back now, hear?

Savas here. Just want to point out to people that it is best to start a new thread when asking for advice on cat issues. Just click on "Post a Question" at the top. It doesn't even have to be a question, that's just how you start a new thread.

It's also good yo do an "Introduction Post". Anything posted in the welcome thread tends to get missed out on.

Otherwise... welcome all!

Hi my name is mylene, my dh and I have 5 cats. This kind of happened by accident when we took in a stray kitten 3 years ago (didn't know she was preggers). We started with our 16 year old cat Nala, then there is Mina who is now 3 1/2, Bobba from her first litter 1  1/2, and Gullie and Cartoonie who are from her second litter and are 9months old. We wished we could have kept all of them, but they went to great homes. I'm glad to have found this forum, I hope to meet some great people and exchange some funny stories and good advice. Thanks for reading!

I am house sitting two cats.  The 7 month old adopted cat from the shelter has been here for most of her life.  She emitts a gasy oder like fresh poop all the time.  i.e. when she walks, sits, gets up, I mean all the time.  They have had to the vet and he says change the food.  Nothing helps.  It's hard to cuddle her when she stinks all the time.  Any ideas on what it could be......  She has crusty little things all around her bum.  Also, just after she goes to litter box, she has a little runny poop on her bum but yet her poop is firm.  If the local vet isn't helping any suggestions what it might be.

Hello,  I need advice.  I have taken my cat 3 times to the vet and it has cost me 800.00 dollars and now they want 500 dollars more.  My cat got in a fight and had an abcess on the top of his head almost between his eyes a little further back.  Two visits the vet lanced and drained the abcess and gave antibodics.  Infection still didn't go away.  Then we took him in and they operated and drained and put a drain tube in and they gave different antibodics. This has been going on before christmas.  I called now and they want to do a culture for 500.00 dollars to see which antibodic to give. We have been applying hot compresses and keeping the wound open.   I called on Saturday and they quoted me 177.00 and my daughter took my cat in and now they want 500 for the procedure.  Is 500.00 the amount to do a culture to see what the infection is???  Thank you for your advice.   If I had a job that I could afford this it wouldn't be an issue but I'm barely making the bills now.

Hi, I'm so excited that I found this place. I just recently got a six week old ragdoll/siamese female kitten. She is the center of my world! (aside from my daughter) But I noticed that within the last three days, her bottom lip, infront of her teeth, began to swell. I'm worried completely sick about her. She's still eating and drinking, she's also still very playful. But, and I'm sure you all agree, you're animals are just like your children. Has anyone had this happen before? What is it? Should I take her to the vet? Please, someone give me some insight. Like I said, I'm worried sick about her. Also, I've read all through the home page and it doesn't say anywhere about joining this forum costing money. I'm a single working mom and if it does, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to afford it. If someone could please respond to this, I would greatly appreciated it. Thanks so much!

Thank you for the wonderfully heartfelt welcome Savas.  I'm sure my Bad Baby Cat thanks you too, as this place may save her life the next time she dumps my HOT coffee on me.  I would ask her and all, but she's presently out plotting my nervous breakdown.

This is great!  My kitties keep me sane and in balance.  We have four:  Grace (a male--and we did not name him! aged 7), Brittany (female, aged 5), Momma Maggie (female, also 5), and Hannah (female, about 2).  (We also have two birds, a parakeet and a cockatiel, but that's a different story!)  Grace is a Russian Blue; he came to us from a friend of mine at work who needed to find a foster mom for him while she was working in Moscow.  That was 6 1/2 years ago--she's long since returned from Russia but he was so much my kitty by then she let me have him.  Brittany is a short-haired black tabby-on white I found at our local rescue place.  I knew she'd been waiting for me as soon as I saw the white spot at the tip of her tail.  My girlfriend and I rescued Momma Maggie from her next door neighbor. She was starving and weighed only ~5 lbs when we loaded her up and took her to the vet.  Hannah came to us as a foster kitty earlier this year.  She was quite sick at the time (constant diarrhea--I forget the name of what she had) and I had to keep her away from my other cats and in a place that could be cleaned easily.  She's a silver tabby with the biggest blue eyes and a 90 deg kink in her tail--plus two claws on each of her front dewclaws.

I love my babies...........

Hi! I just recently discovered this forum for people who love cats! I have 2 cats, Oliver and Dunder and they like to be mischievous but play all the time. They are both around 8 months in age and were adopted :) They keep our lives full and happy after a hard days work. Just today our cat Oliver ate a plastic milk ring!!!! I don't know what to do about this, will it pass through his system? what should we do? Thank you so much!

Another great positive day with my new kitty.  Her name has been changed to squeaker as she doesn't meow but sqeaks.  She so far has had no accidents and is adjusting well.  I am so happy.  It is amazing what an animal can do to ones life.

I was told about this forum when I was telling everone about my new kitty on another forum.  I lost 2 cats during the last few years and was totally devastated.  Hubby did not want to get another one as he was so attached to the last kitty we lost.  I have just spent the last 2 years in a living medical hell.  Yeh, I know there are others worse off then me but when living thru it it is hard to remember.  Anyway Monday hubby surprised me with taking me kitty shopping.  Finally found one Wednesday.  Gray tortoise. Long, sleek, 2 months old.  Named her squeaky.  I had my first non depressed day in ages.  I am looking forward to a happy joyful life with my little girl.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!   What an exciting find!   I have spent less than 10 minutes on this site and already I am loving the excitement of all these cat owners.

I have been a veterinary technician for more than 15 years and have been in love with cats since my very first white long-haired named Me-Me.   I have bred Siamese and Shaded Silver Persians and I have worked with rescue organizations here in Indiana.   I guess, in short, I have been involved with a LOT of cats in my years!!  lol!!

I am looking forward to meeting everyone here!!

I just joined this forum. I have to girls, Punkin, 12 yrs, and Elvis, 11 yrs. Elvis is Punkin's daughter and when she was a tiny kitten I could have sworn she was a male. Sometimes it's hard to tell when they're first born. Anyway, since we had already gotten used to the name by the time we realized she was a female it just stuck.

I have also been a member of the ovarian cancer forum for many months. When I was very sick earlier this year my cats knew and never left my side. They were such a comfort to me. I would just lay in bed, pet them and scratch their ears while they were curled up next to me purring up a storm. Best medicine I had.
My cancer is currently behaving itself and I feel pretty good.

I have loved cats all my life and it's great to have a forum to go to that is about the animals I love instead of the other stuff I have had to deal with!

Thank you so much!   Margo

I'm also a first-timer. I was excited to see pet forums in addition to all the human stuff. I have 3 boys who ruled the roost...until we got a puppy last year & another puppy yesterday to keep the 1st one company. Now my boys are miserable all over again. My main goal is to set up a room in the house that's all theirs so they can escape the canine antics. Maybe I'll pick up some other ideas on how to make my boys happy again when I pop by here. :)

Hi Mollyrae, welcome; we're glad to have you here. Feel free to laze about and chat us up. We aren't always about cat health issues...sometimes we discuss the best way to make a cat skinned rug from a cat who lands on your stomach in the night, or how to make a cat-a-pult. :-)

We also occassionally talk about (shocked gasp) the people world!!!
