Extremely sharp pain around the base and back of skull is this common?

I had decompression surgery for Chiari 1 about two years ago. Over the last 6 months I've been having extremely sharp pain at the base of my skull and the back lower half of my head. Has anyone else experienced this? Medication doesn't seem to help and at this point I just have to wait out the "episodes" of pain. Thank you in advance!

  Hi and welcome back.

Sorry you continue to have pain since  your surgery.....

Many times it can be a related condition and not the Chiari itself....did you have ALL related conditions ruled out b4 surgery?

There are so many other medical issues we can have to deal with....so do make sure your Drs look at those that can be linked to Chiari.
