So, the NS called...

And much like the other neurosurgeons email i posted about..no direct answer (i realize they cant and wont give one unless its life and death) He said with a syrinx, he always treats the Chiari by decompression, in hopes that the syrinx will shrink, or not progress. So since I have a syrinx, he believes decompression is the answer. He said its just not a black and white answer...which I know, its not. Syrinxs dont always grow...and mine has not in two years, but it doesnt mean it wont! Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhh, is all I have to say right now! Gosh, you'd think this would be a "no brainer" (pun intended) ARGH!
SO not much of an update, but wanted to let ya all know I did hear from him! :)
Hope everyone is having a pain free day!
Mazie :)

I feel for you as I am in the same boat. It would be so much easier if the doctors could just tell us for sure one way or another. I too have a syrinx along with chiari and I am terrified of having the surgery. It is such a difficult decision to have to make. On one hand I really want to feel better and not wait so long that I risk complications with the syrinx but on the other what if the syrinx doesn't get any worse or I go ahead with the surgery and it makes things worse. I guess this is something we are all unfortunately faced with. I will have all my scans repeated again in October and take it from there. Wishing you and all of our chiari family hope, relaxation and freedom from pain!
