Just an update on CSF leak repair

Hi all.......I am now home after a 6 night stay in hospital for CSF leak repair.  Doc says that the fibrin glue popped off of an area of durapatch which allowed CSF to leak between stitches on durapatch.  The leak was in the worse area possible.........near bottom of patch closest to magnum foramen.  Doc had to harvest fatty tissue & shave bone to form a "gasket" to stop the leak.  I had a lumbar drain which was drained hourly for 4 days (horrific headaches!!!!!) which got better once drainage was decreased according to symptoms.  I still have some pretty tough headaches on & off but Fiurocet does help.  The back of my head is the flattest it has ever been since the initial surgery!!!!  No more soft spots or large fluid filled pocket.......YAY!!!!!  I am doing better everyday but not allowed to do anything other than rest, rest & more rest!!!!!!  Hope all is well with everyone  :-) <3

Thanks you guys for caring!!  I truly believe that this forum has helped keep me off of antidepressants throughout all of this.  I feel that I am a very strong independent person & this "Chiari thing" is like the Hulk coming crashing down on you!!!!  Everyone here is so caring & always leading others to realize that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  I have made great friends due to this forum & actually had Bamagirl40 in the same hospital at the same time as myself.........wasn't well enough to meet each other but have been in contact throughout our recovery.  Just wanted others to know that Selma & Elisaandbucky give great advice/support always!!!!!  Also I want to give a shout out to Zygy2 for all of the pre surgery support for this CSF leak........she is super knowledgeable of post op complications since she has been through soooo much!!  Sorry for rambling but I can't say enough about this forum.  Hope everyone is having a blessed day!!!!

Thank you, Lottida, for keeping us posted on progress. It sounds like you had a few wild days. It is good to hear that you are home resting - nothing like being in your own bed. Listen to your doctor - and to Selma - and rest and heal and know that people here on this forum care about you.
