Does size matter?

Now that I’m finally able to read my MRI report, I’m intrigued, curious, especially given the extreme dx’s from the NL.
My *tonsils* extend down 7 mm; syrinx is 10 cm.  Does size matter or is positioning the most important factor?
On oddly related note, I was recently in the rest room, had to strain slightly for a bowel movement and ended up w/pins & needles at the base of my skull. I wonder if today’s NL blame that on perimenapause or carpal tunnel?

Be very careful to not strain, Selma is right and that is dangerous! The fact that you get those symptoms with it is your body telling you something is wrong, so try to let things move on there own or take medication.
I read the Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia Patient Handbook and it says to not strain at all including coughing, lifting, straining to use the bathroom all no no's until you get into see a neurosurgeon. You can make it worse or cause your self more damage to the area effected.  Take medications to control coughs and sneezes. Meds of fiber to help bowels ect.

I dont think size matters when you have these conditions. The fact is they are not normal and they are there, causing you problems. Im am very sorry you are going through this.

Hi..well it depends on what we r talking about, with chiari size or length of the herniation is not as important as width, which is usually not mentioned on MRI reports.

With a syrinx, size is more a concern.....as the larger it is, the more damage it can do.Again, width is more an issue with a syrinx too, but location will  be a factor as to what type of symptoms u will be having.

To avoid strain, try to use a natural product to ease this process ....we need to avoid straining as much as possible....

Since u have a syrinx, I think it is safe to say u most likely have a CSF blockage somewhere. Many with a CSF blockage and no syrinx r advised to have surgery b4 a syrinx develops...
