Gardenia's need humidity... r u trying to grow ur gardenia inside or out?
What zone r u in...can u leave it outside yr round?
This plant is susceptible to spider mites...u will see the webs b4 u see the spider as they r tiny....
u have to have the right soil conditions and air flow....yeah, I know, especially if inside....
woody stemmed plants, bushes love acid in the soil so use a plant food with it in or coffee grounds (used) that will help feed the plant.
ok, now I want to go visit a botaical garden today. I am like linnelou, I have many favorites and each one holds a special memory as it was someone elses favorite. My GGma had a beautiful flower and veggie garden in Illionois. And my M-I-L was a flourist. I absolutely love fresh flowers in the house. The one I fell in love with a few years ago because it was new to me was the french tulip. It was in my M-I-L arrangement for her memorial service. So danity and pure looking. To list my favorites would take all day...and I have an appointment with the front yard...pulling weeds!
Jiggle
I also love the grasses! Will have to add a few of those across the back of the yard this year....the ones with the silky tops that shimmer in the sun -- don't know what they're called.
I love lilies and canterbury bells! Pretty much love pink and purple flowers, maybe add in some white or blue too! There are just too many gorgeous lilies out there! One of my favorite things to watch though is how the wild flowers change all year while driving down the interstate! I love watching different colors every week it seems. Anything other than snow is beautiful!!
A friend of mine goes to others and have flower exchanges. She has a lot of flowers that are rare and she is nice enough to share. Before my surgeries I gave away 15 house plants and you couldn't even tell. That's how much I love plants. They give me so much comfort and good reminders. It's nice to see all of you do too. Selma one plant I can not grow is a Gardenia, how do I keep it alive.? It's the only plant I can't keep. Selma you are an amazing woman, and so talented. For indoor plants I have a cactus that was my great grandmothers that I treasure. Thanks for sharing your stories.
Ohhh and Gardenias (sp?) They remind me of my mom
I like Easter Lillies, wild flowers, sun flowers and roses..
They remind me of happier days in my childhood :)
Sure I went to school for it and worked as a florist for over 23 yrs...I'll take questions...lol....
Selma, Youre a florist? Do you take questions on gardening or is that another site, haha. I love hydrangeas...only I can never get them to grow...Selma?
I want elevated planter boxes so I can get at them....but I have 3 hydrangra bushes ,2 holly bushes and a boxwood...bleeding heart and iris that r there every yr, I have to add the rest...lol...
I do not have a green thumb I kill everything:( I would love peomy bushes in my yard
I have so many flower's and I love them all. What makes them all special are they represent a person in my life. I love to walk through anyyard. I have people walk by and I have a shovel ready if anyone want's any. I have to say the ones that mean the most are burgandy prim roses that my mother in law gave me a start of. They were my DH grandmothers. I split them every year and I now have them all around the house, and it reminds me spring is coming. I can't wait until I can dig in the dirt.
Linda :)
Ry's last dance I did gerbra for wrist corsage and was planning calla this time! So pretty. They even used rhinestones on the gerbra but it did fall apart at the dance....not as tough of flower....expensive corsage for short life
Yes they r one of my DD's favs...we always get her Gerbera's for a performance...her last one tho I had to get calla lilies....
I also love gerbra daisies so bright and happy
U can not ask a florist which one...as there r too many...I would be here all day listing all I love and y....I do not have one fav...mayb at a time of yr I like to see this one or that for a reason....but, it would not make it my fav flower.....
It use to be a freesia as it was difficult to get back in the 70's it is dainty, and smells wonderful and comes in many diff colors....today, they grow them all over and hybrid the smell out of them....so I lost my connection to them...same with roses...if I can find an old fashion garden rose that has fragrance I love it, like gardenias....but too often for the demand the fragrance is lost to get color, size and quantity...
Right now I would love to see a field of wild flowers.....yeah...sigh
Mine are carnations! I don't know I just like the way they bloom! And that you can have them all the colors you want them :)
Daffodils, because they are a sign that spring is coming.
For me it's peony...my grandmother had hundreds of them on her farm so the smell sends me straight there. My husband took me to the farmers market one time and it was in a larger city. There was a whole row of flowers and all the sudden I could smell peonies and it made me cry. I wish they had a longer season of bloom. I would love a bunch on m table.
