Your school should understand and give you extensions for work etc, you are having major surgery you qualify for some time off !
I am five weeks post op and in the new year I intend on going back to university on a trail basis - my teachers are willing to give me more time off if it's too much to cope with.
:)
Hi, can you tell me what restrictions you were given following your surgery?
I feel we all have different restriction's. As for me I am 16mths post op and I still avoid lifting also. I don't bend for a long period of time. I also avoid large growd's due to fear of someone accidentally hitting the back of my head. I am blessed with a very caring and watchful family. Just do thing's in modiration and you will find what is good for you and what is not. I would avoid lifting, bending anything for a while. Better to be safe than sorry.
I was given the same kind of restrictions that Selma mentioned, which didn't seem too bad, my doc thought I'd have far fewer restrictions than I really have. I think that we are all probably different in what our bodies will allow us to do after the surgery. I had my surgery 2 years ago and I still can't lift heavy things without having pain in the back of my head. I can't do any kind of exercise that has impact or significant exertion involved, I can't do things that shake me around very much (like riding the lawnmower or riding horseback), I get head pain and tremors for a few days following if I do any of those types of activities.
All in all, I can still do many of my normal activities and I am tremendously better than before the surgery. I think you will figure out over time what you can and can't do in order to avoid being symptomatic. I hope your recovery goes really well.
