You can still have Chjiari pain and symptoms, but like Selma said, there is no cure for this, the surgery usually helps tremendously.
Beaglefreak, make sure that you keep up your neck exercises - you build up scar tiossue if you don't, and that is very painful and limiting. It takes about a year to recover from this kind of surgery.
Hi there.... since my surgery in june 09 I notice I do have pain or aching in the back of my head. I've called the surgeon's office and they tell me this is normal as the deep muscle tissues heal. It's a long process. Sometimes if I move my head too quickly, I get a sharp muscle pain in my neck like a pulled muscle... I think because I have just held my neck so still just in case of pain. So I'm slowly getting stronger, and I watch what I lift or how much I do in one day. When I'm exhausted, the aching is greater too.
Hope this helps?
Megan
DIrectly after surgery I felt 100% better....that was the meds....but I did slowly start to get some symptoms back.....some stayed away.
I understand, I have several different conditions and never know if the symptoms were the chiari, thyroid, or EDS....it can be tough to tell.
But u can continue to have pain/symptoms the surgery is to help stop the progression....there is no cure for chiari, but the sooner u stop the progression the better chance of eliminating some of the pain/symptoms and the chance of having perm nerve damage.
