Pregnant and chiari

I had decompression surgery in 2009 but it didn't relieve the headaches all that much.  I am now pregnant and the meds I was on before pregnancy (Topamax & Vicodin), of course I can't take now and Tylenol is not helping much at all.  Just wondering if anyone else has been pregnant with chiari and how you got through the headaches.  Also, were there any special precautions you had to take with the pregnancy?

Thank you for your response.  The only MRI that was done after surgery was at the 6 week visit and at that point everything was going pretty good.  I was just another number for the NS and he didn't care about post-op after that 6 week visit.

I tried to find the book you mentioned by Diane Mueller, but had no luck.

My OB doctor is considering putting me back on topomax while I'm pregnant but given the side affects it caused prior, I am not so sure it is safe to use while pregnant.  I guess I'll see.

Thanks again!

Hi....I am sorry u r still having HA's post op that feel the same as pre op...could it be u have some scar tissue built up?...Have u had a MRI since the surgery?

As for the pregnancy.....they do suggest u have a C-section to avoid the strain of natural childbirth....I did go thru natural childbirth, but had no idea I had chiari.....

There r a few books written by  Diane Mueller, N.D., R.N on the topic of Chiari and pregnancy....u may want to check them out...she even co-wrote a few books with Dr Oro.
