My chiari specialist also told me there weren't many restrictions...he said I was good to go got riding horses. I also am very active and am careful but I also live! you know your body...best of luck!
Thanks mate i'm with you lifes to be lived to the best you can. Sometimes its just harder than others.
Greg
I completely agree with you!
I was seen by a very highly respected Chiari specialist and was not a canidate for surgery and when we asked about restrictions on activities or exercise he said there are none! He said go on and live your life. So I feel that unless a Dr recommends that you avoid certain activities why stop doing what you love. JMHO
I know I am going to go against the grain here, but I would say unless your doctor feels like surfing is hazardous then keep doing what you love. I am a very active triathlete (I have noticed people have said that they would not recommend biking or running) and doing what I love gets me through the days both good and bad and I would never give it up even though yes sometimes my symptoms increase temporarily. Sometimes giving up something you love to do will only make you focus more on negative/painful things.
Well many of us with Chiari do have bowel and bladder issues as a result of related conditions and many get misdx'd.
I was dx'd with raynauds as well, and now I know it was not raynauds, but Ehlers-Danlos....
So, do see a chiari specialist to make sure those other issues r not a misdx so many of us have gotten a few.
ANd we have had a few with pituitary issues.....the Gilberts is a new one tho....
.
Hi,
My MRI was for me being unwell which turned out to be a benign tumor on my pituitry which is stopping me producing Cortisol, Prolactin and Growth Hormone also have Raynauds Syndrome,Gilberts Disease and Colitis. Yeh I'm one healthy guy.
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
Well Greg, I know u said u were dx'd with this and yes there r things u can avoid to help prevent triggering symptoms....and hitting ur head falling off a board would be something to do just that....there r safer ways to exercise and not run the risk of triggering the symptoms.
Walking, using a recumbent bike, swimming......
U could keep on doing what u r doing...it may put u at risk, but just having chiari as a dx is not enuff u may need more testing b4 u decide what type of exercises u want to do or not....some can continue with no issues,
May I ask what the unrelated issue was that they found the chiari.
The thing with chiari is, it is congenital and so many of us have learned to live with the symptoms that we do not recognize them as symptoms, just a result of over doing it, or that it is just how I am....so, do consider getting the rest of the testing done to see if u have a CSF obstruction , CINE MRI, and MRI's of the thoracic and lumbar spine to rule out a syrinx, disk issues, and sleep apnea, POTS, ICP, ehlers-danlos....
If a Chiari specialist says u r not a surgical candidate at this time, then speak with them about ur sport....to me, it would be a risky one JMHO.
