Have a surgery date....

Hi everyone,
Finally have a surgery date. What a long road. It is Nov. 15th. It is with Dr. Weingart of Johns Hopkins. I have seen three neurosurgeons in one weekend plus two in my own state of Florida and he was by far the right choice for me. He is quiet but very nice and spoke to me for 40 minutes, did a neurological exam, looked at my films and really knew a lot about the latest research etc. He didn't pressure me into surgery and will be using a new technique to protect the dura patch which is a small titanium plate to secure everything. I guess Dr. Oro does it and actually invented it. It helps the dura to grow across it more easily, lessens recovery time and increases stability that can protect against trauma but of course you should always still be careful with your neck. It really made sense to me and my husband. His record of Chiari surgeries are about a 100 a year and he has done over 700 in his career and mostly on adults with lots of research articles published behind him as well. Since this is such a rare condition - I feel comfortable with this number. He also has a 2% complication rate which I feel comfortable with too. So I hope this helps anyone else who is thinking of going to him. Of course, it is the actual surgery that matters and I will update all of you on my progress. Hoping everyone has a pain free day.

That is such fantastic news! I havent been on in a while and am thrilled that you are going to Hopkins.
My circumstances are a bit different - had surgery in february at Cooper Trauma in NJ(i had no other choice at the time - i was in bad shape)
I have an appointment Nov 11th with Dr Nim from the neuro team at Johns Hopkins and am hoping for some relief. Maybe another set of eyes will see something that the docs in NJ havent.
ive had nearly every scan and test you can think of (at least the docs here can think of)
and im still stuck with  pain and problems.
Best of luck for a smooth surgery and a nice steady recovery :)

Congrats! I'm glad you found someone you were comfortable with! Looks like we will just be missing each other at the hospital. (Hopefully I'm home by then) Good luck with everything. Do you know which hospital they are doing it at? There is the one in downtown Baltimore, and there is the Bayview campus.
