Hubby and I were wondering - did 1 surgery do it?

As most of you know - Mike had his surgery last Wed - August 1st.  NS seemed pleased and felt like it was a success.  Mike does say that his pain is more surgical and he hasn't experienced any of the chiari headaches and symptoms that he had prior to surgery (yeahh!).   But we also know it's early and don't want to get too excited.

My question is - does 1 surgery typically do the trick?  What's the liklihood of needing more done down the road?

I had surgery 1 last aug, and headed for #2 aug 20th. My first ns wasn't a specialist but had done only about 20 decompressions, he only did craniotomy and laminectomy. So it did nothing and on my way again with dr oro a chiari specialist. To fix the job. If I would have seen dr oro first I think I would have only had one surgery tho. Don't worry about this right now just take it day by day...

I have had 5 and am planning number six and possibly number 7.  I think that most have just one though :)  When we are still in the boards and posting that usually means something is wrong, happily the people that don't have issues can just continue on and they don't visit the boards as frequently.  The best advice... as said above..... TAKE IT EASY, don't strain, lift or do anything crazy to make the chances greater that things go wrong!!  Take it easy and heal and take the time to rest!!!!  The best thing you can do is give your body the best chance for a full and successful recovery.  Complication rates are pretty low so hopefully he has a fast and full recovery!

I sadly to say had to have 3 brain surgeries and 1 other surgery within 4 month period, but it was because of me and my tissue in the head not scarring over.  Please keep your husband from lifting, bending, and not pushing hard during a bowel movement.  This could cause a leak, so I hope he gets lots of rest, and avoid what I suggested this does help.  Hope this helps and will have you and your DH in my prayers for better healing.
Linda :)

Hi...the likelihood of more surgeries depends on how he recovers and if he has ne other issues...

I had one surgery so far (3 yrs ago) but am supposed to have others, for bulging disks and tethered cord....

At this point post op not having Chiari symptoms is typical...and with the drugs used for surgery it does take time to leave ur system,....so that helps in how we feel...as it wears off and we begin to do more  symptoms begin to return...usually around 3 months post op. The symptoms should not be like b4 surgery, but this is a result of the nerves healing....
