Do I seriously have to wait until June for Surgery!?

I have recieved all my Medicare info - letters and a card, but the "effective date" isn't until June. I know this has to do with the 2 year waiting period of Disability but I mean seriously what am I supposed to do until then? Is there any way around this?

I know here in Mi they state once you have been approved for SSI you have to wait 5 to 6 mths before medicare kicks in.  It is worth the wait, but I feel your pain.  I know it is hard to deal with Chairi and in pain all the time.  People here have taught me that patience is the best medicine.  I also agree with above statement's that there are programs out there that we don't know about unless you inquire about them.  Hope the best for you.

Personally, I would rather wait until June than have big bills.  My insurance is the high deductible plan so you pay 100% for the first tier, 20% (insc 80%) once you reach the second tier, and once you reach the maximum tier insurance will pay 100%.  It will take me years of monthly payments to pay the bills from the past two years.

Whine away. The hoop game shall continue for some time.

In the long run it will be worth it though. Medicare/Medicaid is what some describe as the Cadillac of all insurance. I had both for a while. With both there are no co-pays to worry about. I also didn't have to worry about waiting for this doctor or that one to approve a treatment. The Docs seem to know what Medicare's L codes will approve and you pretty much just get it done.

It's a hoop game though. Once you jump through this one then out of the blue they'll send you an unexpected letter with a hoop of a different color. It really is worth it though if you look at what some others have to deal with. Many, perhaps even here on this list, don't have any insurance at all. Or are stuck with a 20% co-pay for services there is no way they could pay 2%.

Yeah, I know ... June sounds like forever right now. Perhaps you have already, but if you haven't looked into it, some states have an emergency coverage program. I don't know what it is called but it comes from the Medicaid program. My wife used it once many years ago. She had some seizures they couldn't dx the cause so obviously some bills racked up. But she worked part time and had no insurance to even help pay. She went into the welfare department and they told her she qualified for one time help through this program. No promises but it could be worth a shot.

I think everyone here can agree on the disease being miserable. I would suggest that you do what you can about the medicare and tci (I still hope they can work with my insurance) right away. I'm a little confused about medi-caid. They are supposed to automatically provide care depending on the state when you get disability. I guess your state doesn't qualify. Do you get SSI as well as ssdi? Maybe only ssi recipients get it automatically. I'd ask about SSI as well from social security if I were you since the battle for ssdi was won the battle for ssi should be a snap. I know people who get both.

As for the comment about video games, you reminded me of a t-shirt I have seen worn that says "Video games destroyed my life thank goodness I have two more." lol. For me school is the only thing keeping me going and I'm losing that in 3 weeks due to not being able to do surgery and school next quarter.

No, I have not heard back from them yet. That takes a month even though I asked them to expedite it. They've actually called me a couple times to get info and then said, "ok, I think you'll be eligible, bye." But even then, that insurance is for the state I think.

The only thought I had was that if I gave TCI my Medicare info they could schedule me now, do the surgery and wait until June to be compensated. That's probably the worst way I could write that but you know what I mean. I just keep getting these letters that say "Welcome to Medicare, here are all the benefits you'll be receiving... in June."

I guess It's really not that far away so I should stop whining :) This is just a very difficult disorder to maintain, especially when you're never getting any good sleep ( *_#) and your just sitting around wasting away. At least video games are awesome!

Don't you get medi-caid (or whatever the state insurance is called) that comes with disability?
