therapy/counseling

Recently i have been thinking about going to counseling. Im tired of sounding like a broken record to my family about my chiari. Plus i could use it in other ways i think also. Like everyday life, relationships. Someone i can speak to who isnt suppose to judge me. Anyone else consider this? The stresss of everyday things are adding to my chiari flare ups.

I would recommend that you get the Dx "depression due to chronic illness" if accurate.  I had to fight for this--even if it may be merely a billing code-- but I found that I'm taken Much more seriously by the pcp!

My counselor as RA, which reduced her practice to part time.  So she understands the toll & expense of chronic illness (esp the invisible kind).  I disagree w/her advice that I should volunteer though; maybe it makes some people feel better, but its not my cup of tea even tho I was a college counselor in a past life).

Ive been seeing a counselor since I became ill; she's a nurse & has a chronic illness also.  I feel that it's like taking out the garbage.

Hi...I was sent to group and individual counsel back when I was in High school for my head aches...so BTDT and I did get some thing out of it I still draw from, but I would not consider going  back at this point....if I had not already been thru it I may have considered it.

We all must do what we feel we need, and if u need this, then go...if we can be of ne help at  this time, let us know...we r here for u too.

I also know u may not want to share some things on the public forum, so if u r close to some one here, PM them...keep some private things private....

But, do what u feel u need,....no judgments here.
