I have the itching on and off, too....I'm almost 12 weeks post op. I've been told it's a good sign of healing and not to pull on the incision. I know what you mean about being so numb that you can't tell where the itch is!!
I've been using vitamin E oil for the itching right on the incision and it helps somewhat --- I was allowed to start this at week 4. As far as the deeper nerve-related itching feeling (the one that you can't get to because of numbness -- I have that too -- arrgh!) I've been using ice packs to numb the whole area, which gives me some relief. Just remember to not leave ice on for more than 20 minutes.
Good luck!
Hi I have to concur with Dana as it is itching it is healing, the other thing I was told was not to wash my hair too often as it would cause the scar tissue and skin around it to dry causing it to pull....so only baby shampoo and not often.....
Best thing u can do is do not scratch as u do not want an infection.....just know u r healing and ur hair is growing back in. <3
Was your dura opened or just the bone removed? I notice you don't have a second smaller incision for the dura patch?
I had surgery August 18 in Dallas. And yes i'm still on pain meds, not near as much or as often. mostly in the morning is when it hurts the most. But my doctor said he would like me to be of off them by my 3 week follow up which its the tenth.
I know you don't want to hear this, but for my 1st surgery I had it. Its a great sign of healing. Its awful but just know its annoying and a great thing. All of us who've had surgery know exactly what you mean. Now I am 3 weeeks post op on mon coming up from 2nd surgery and it doesn't itch or feel anything at the incision. I think cause its thru my old scar?! I don't have any ideas to help you. But know its a good sign. Hugs my friend, Dana
When was your surgery date and where was it done? Are u still on pain meds? I am just curious. I am.
