Head shaking

My son is 14 years old. I have noticed different movements.  Right now he is shaking his head. I have asked him what he feels that makes him do that and he says nothing. I asked him if he notices himself doing that and he says yes he notices but can't stop it. Before him shaking his head, he would open his mouth wide as if he was popping his ear. Please help.

It can also be signs of Tourettes or OCD. You can take it up with his doctor but if its not affecting his daily life don't make a big deal about it. Most kids do outgrow it but some don't. I remember having similar issues from age 6. My daugher seems OCD as well and also has some "ticks" like this. Sometimed the tick changes to a different kind of tick. I didn't realize it in myself until I was treated for anxiety and the same medications are used to help OCD and my ticks mostly disappeared. One particular medication made them worse and I got off of that one. Goodluck and dont worry too much. Stress or anxiety may make ticks worse and he may feel bad about himself which will not help him as a person.

If this has never happened before and he didn't really have any other twitches - then it might be ear related.  You could have an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist check it out.

I'm not a doctor It could possibly be epilepsy if nothing is prompting his head to shake like that. I'd recommend seeing a neurologist if it doesn't stop. I'm speaking from personal experience because I was around that age when I started to have seizures. Age 10. I hope he gets better and I hope you find the treatment you need.
