6 year old sleeping

I have a 6 year old boy who will not sleep in his own bed all night by himself.  I will lay their with him until he falls asleep and stay anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.  Within 15 minutes after I leave, he comes into my bedroom.  I can take him back to his room and still the same thing happens.  I have tried the sleep fairy, TV left on, night lights, special lights, etc.
What can I do??

Oh, and no tv's in kids room, in my opinion.  Besides that I don't think that is good in general--- if left on while sleeping, the white light of it actually interferes with REM sleep.  Night lights and a soft fan running for white noise give a soothing enviroment.  Good luck!!

Be firm.  Keep walking him back to his room.  No matter how many times it takes.  Tell him in the day when he has a meltdown or a bad moment----  that this is because he didn't get enough sleep.  Sleep is important.  Keep telling him that so he learns to value it himself.  And keep walking him back. Don't talk much and don't go crazy trying to make him comfortable.  The more you give in the longer it will take.  Good luck.
