Possible PDD Diagnosis

Hello!

My son, 8 years old, is currently going through evaluations regarding sensory issues, anxiety issues and he has been diagnosed with ADHD. The doctor is still uncertain whether he has PDD and is continuing to evaluate him.

The doctor has diagnosed him with ADHD and Anxiety; we just finished an O/T evaluation regarding his sensory issues and should have the final report soon. The O/T did mention he has poor tracking with his eyes and was surprised the school didn't bring it up to us sooner, like in kindergarten.

My son has had symptoms here and there but nothing definitive and that is why it's hard for the doctor to diagnose the PDD. He has a lack of social skills, very analytical / business like, throws tantrums or has emotional outbursts (though those have lessen), he has a deep oral fixation we cannot seem to break through, impulsive, hyperactive, poor motor skills, sensory issues, not touchy-feely, inappropriate social interactions, constantly making noises, hand-flapping, etc.

If you have any information regarding PDD, I would appreciate it!

Thank You!

Hi Everyone!

Wow, thank you for all the posts. I apologize for not getting back on here sooner but work has been crazy. :)

I appreciate all the information and I will be joining the Sensory Integration Disorder community here shortly. I also will call his doctor and see if this is something else she can look at, especially after she receives the final report from the O/T evaluation.

Hi there, agree with sandman that it would be so worth looking into sensory integration disorder.  People are starting to understand more about sensory integration disorder and that it is a separate diagnosis.  Really important to educate yourself so that your child can get proper diagnosis and help.  So many want to lump each thing into one diagnosis which isn't the best approach in my opinion.

My son has similarities to what you described and he received a diagnosis of sensory integration disorder at 4 years old.  Now at 10, through the help of occupational therapy and things designed to help him directly with his sensory issues, he's doing fantastic.  I'm a big believer in the right diagnosis.

And sensory is NOT autism.  Autistic kids will possibly have an overlapping condition of sensory integration disorder but sensory integration disorder can be a diagnosis by itself.

I've been where you are at and offer you hope and encouragement.  they do wonderful things to help our kids!  Can't say enough about that.

Read the sites that sandman listed and let me know what you think.  Happy to help in any way I can.  peace
