RE: Twisting and shaking hands when excited??

Hello, my daughter who is 19 months old does this hand and mouth movement when she is excited or overly tired. More like revving a motorcycle action. Is this a normal development stage?? Looking forward to your reply!! Thanks :o)

Our grandson did this a lot when he was younger.  He does this behaviour very little now (is a pre-teen).  He is intuitive, intelligent compassionate and very social.  He shows no signs of autism - and that's what you were asking, wasn't it?  All the best ....

No, there was no need to contact his family doctor - his father acted this way too (and he grew up just fine).  It was just his method of expressing excitement.  I'm assuming your son is displaying no other behaviours that you consider "different".  He still does this occasionally - but with the expansion of his vocabulary, he can now express his excitement using his "words".  But, if you are still concerned, it might be wise to discuss this with your family doctor at your next visit - or post on the "Child Behavior - Expert Forum" on this site.  All the best ....
