What the Hell-Dental Degredation

7 months ago, I went for my normal cleaning and was told I had a cavity. I had it taken care of. 6 months prior to that, I was told the same thing. So I go  to the dentist as scheduled and a normally prescribed.

I went for my normal cleaning this week. I was told that I have significant issues resulting in the need for: root canals, multiple fillings, decay, chipped tooth, cavities. Is this much damage possible? The hygienist told me all this.

My dentist was absent and I saw a hygienist who I have never seen.  The ***** implied that I was not taking care of my teeth properly and asked me if I underwent any changes. Then When I asked to see the physician on duty, she came and initially told me I should wait to speak to my normal dentist- she was acting as if I had a disease that "she " did not want to disclose".  She also say it has been 14 months since my last x-ray- which should  have shown the issues I have sooner. Never-the-less, I insisted that she tell me what was going on. And she just repeated what the hygienist told me.

They both said that everyone is different and the time it takes for the issues that they see to develop  vary from person to person.

Does any of this seem probable given my patient history?

I really don't know what

Talk to friends and find out what dentist they trust and get a second opinion, especially if you are not having any noticeable issues like pain.

Do brush and floss with an extra soft toothbrush (hard to find, but Colgate has a good one that I find at Walmart) or one of the new kind of electric toothbrushes and brush 3 to 5 times a day.  Floss 3 times a week if possible.  Use toothpaste with fluoride.  Don't drink acidic drinks like soda, whether they are diet or not.  If you started a new acidic kind of juice or candy, that could be another issue for you.

Also , the "hygentist" told me that she did not want to print out the dental plan because of the cost and that what she listed would change:

Total cost: $4,300.00
