Phantom Smells

This may sound like a silly question, but it is something that is bothering me.  I keep getting strange smells that linger for a day or so.  Is it to do with depression?

I have had depression and migraines for many years, but it is only lately that I have been getting these smells.  It is nothing outside, it seems to be in my head!!  Yesterdays smell was like spray paint.  Wherever I went, however much I washed, deodorised, etc. it was always there.  It bothered me nearly all night.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The smells I smell do not exist, that is the strange thing.  They are in my head.  It is not sensitivity as such, because there are no smells around.  That is what is so strange to me and why I call them phantom smells.

Depression, anxiety and even other disorders, like fibromyalgia, can cause hypersensitivity. My wife has all of the above and can tell when I put on cologne on the other side of the house, and I can't even get close to her because of it.
