If you suffer as bad as you say you do then my friend you have to take your meds.
I have 4 a day which I must remember to take twice a day. It can be done if you want to feel better.
Maybe try to think of some creative ways to remind yourself too take them. You can't get your life back in order if you keep screwing around with your meds.
I agree with all and I have a hard time with taking med's b/c half the time I don't remember. I know it is wrong to feel the way I do but it is all I can think about.
Hi,
If your doc is talking in riddles he is hiding the treatment as he is embarrassed by it. "A vacation for your mind" is a ridiculous expression and is not reality. I'd suggest your doc take a long and real vacation and let someone with real knowledge do his job.
You say you've been diagnosed with all those things but you haven't said if you accept one or all of them.
Which of those do you accept as true and real? If you get down to a diagnosis you know to be true you can start to deal with it. Clearly my first suggestion would be dump this doc but that's a bit premature given your current state.
Just don't agree to ECT until you know there truly is nothing else available. If he does say the actual words and tell you it is the most effective treatment and safe etc ask him why then it wasn't the first treatment offered. You know why.
Obviously real world problems like money do destroy us as without it we are on the street etc. Not something I can solve for you but I'd like to address the suicidal thoughts.
These thoughts come when we feed our mind information that is bad news. Such as "No money for rent". Our minds instantly interpret all thoughts and offer what it sees as a solution. Usually it would answer the rent issue with something like 'Get a job". But if you've not been able to for a time and who hasn't in the financial desruction going on, then your mind looks for other answers. If you don't have any experience with such problems in that you solved them your mind will produce the only way out it can see. Suicide.
That's not an answer, or a solution, for a human being. It's your mind saying "I got nothing". Which means you need input from others, help, treatment.
The key to dealing with suicidal thoughts is to recognise them for what they are. Thoughts. Not orders OK. Just thoughts. They do not have to be followed and they are always temporary. Temporary may be a long period but it does stop, always. I've been there too a few times and I know it feels like the end. But hanging on and being strong produces surprising results.
I'd recommend to you that you read up on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy as that explains how our thought process works and how it becomes depressive and how we can also turn that back around. Don't get me wrong, it ain't easy especially if the causes are still present. But if you can understand the process you can the start to get a grip on this illness. Knowledge is power.
Good luck.
A vacation for your mind? I take it he is suggesting ECT?
Do you take meds for your illness or do you just do the therapy thing?
Also that sounds like a lot of different diagnosis. Have you yet seen a board certified Psychiatrist. One with the experience and care to give you a more difinitive diagnosis?
