a family member

im 21 and i have a family member who has dealt with depression for as long as i can remember. today i found a notebook of hers. i was looking through the pages and saw weird things written down. like i love nobody? and my ex is a piece of. well u know the s word im talking about. she had drawn pictures of smiley faces and below them wrote life is b.s. and i noticed a drawing of someone who resembled her ex. shes going through a breakup which i understand can be hard. but it seems like there is something deep here. i mean smiley faces accompanied by life is b.s? shes very dependent on men. falls in love quickly and was abused by her father growing up. shes a grown woman now. and seems to be very uncaring about most things unless it involves who shes with. whats the problem here?

Don't read her journal. A journal is used to get feelings out and may seem strange.

The good thing is that journaling her feelings helps her to release these feelings and emotions instead of keeping them pent up.  She is obviously struggling with a lot from the past and present.  I feel her actions and feelings about life and men stems from her abuse as a child from her father.  She really needs therapy to deal with all of this, and you may be her only hope in getting this.  You must never tell her what you saw and read, instead just talk to her about things in general in hopes that she opens up to you.  By gaining her trust she may confide in you and even if you can get her to seek therapy only for her break-up....the therapist will get her talking about her past which would benefit her greatly.  She may have some depression which makes us not care about anything or anyone.  I hope this helps and she gets the help she needs...she's a very unhappy person and it's not her fault. She's still a victim of her father's and until she can break free of his hold...she will not get better.
