dizziness

My sister just recently had her best friend get shot and killed. it was very tragic and hard on all of us.
ever since then about 3 weeks ago..she has been getting dizzy and blacking out when she stands up or moves suddenly. i am very worried about her and was wondering if this could be a symptom of being depressed after this tragedy? she doesnt have insurance and can not go to a dr right now so any help is appreciated.
thank you very much

Sorry for your loss of your sister's friend.  Losing someone like that is hard.  A good friend of mine had her fiance murdered right after graduation... and it took her years to get over.  I don't know if the murderer was caught in your sister's friend's case.  Having closure, at least having a suspect might help your sister.  Not knowing who did it can be pretty psychologically traumatic.  My friend never did seek help or counseling after what happened to her fiance.  I still am not sure if she's over what happened and her boyfriend was murdered back in 1995, with nobody ever named.  For a bit she was one of the suspects, even though she was 8 hours drive away from where he was and she was working so there was no way she could have gotten there.  Anyways, I know professional counselors are expensive, but getting her to talk to somebody, if it's either yourself or another friend, can help her emotionally.  When she's ready to.  In the meantime, just make sure she's staying healthy, eating, drinking water, and taking care of herself.

Getting dizzy and blacking out can be symptoms of so many things.  Dehydration.  Brain tumor.  Anyways, I'd assume something less horrid than a brain tumor.  Is she drinking enough water and eating okay?  Sometimes if you are depressed you can forget to do simple things like drink enough water during the day.  Is she eating okay?  Is she drinking alcohol?  That can cause issues too, plus like if you're really down in the dumps, you might think it can help you feel better (hey, I've been there and done that, as well as many others).  Get her talking.  If she has other symptoms besides dizzy and passing out (does she get headaches?), I'd go ask a doctor.  Are there any free clinics near your neighborhood?
