Too Emotional

I have always been a very emotional person and it starting to become a problem. I have been taking Ciprlex to help deal with some depression issues and I thought that it might help me get a handle on my over emotional issues but it really has not.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

For this DBT to be effective wouldn't the person suffering the depression have to have weekly issues to reflect and work on?

What if the Depressed person really doesn't have any weekly life problems to use as a starting point? The idea of DBT is to train the mind to react in a different manner to stress and changing life events, but if the subject has none of this trauma going on in their lives then how can it help those type of depressed people?

It may seem like all people with depression have current life situations and crisis going on in their lives, but not all do. Many people are simply biologically depressed just because they suffer from Major Depression and for no other reason.

For people like that DBT kind of leaves a big dead end as the road can't go any further.

Have you tried "Dialectical Behaviour therapy" ("DBT")? This has an area about regulating your emotions and is an alternative or complement to medication.  You could tryy Amazon.com for a workbook - I used this and found it really useful.

Have you been taking Ciprlex (Lexapro) long enough for it to be effective. As in at least 6 weeks at an effective dosage?

If so then an SSRI may not be the right drug for you. There are also SNRI's and Tricyclic antidepressants that often work better for people than SSRI's.

Just an idea.
