Bladder Infection

Hi.  My mom's puppy (16 weeks old) has a bladder infection.  She's been to the vets and he gave her antibiotics.  He also said that her urine is not acidic enough and gave her medication for that.  She has to be re-checked in 3 weeks.  However, he said she may have to take the pills for the acid for the rest of her life.  Does anyone know of any alternative to this or what would cause this in a puppy so young?  She is on the nutro ultra puppy food, so she gets good food.  And she lives in a very sanitary environment, so it's not that either.  We just don't want to have to have her on medication for her whole life.  Any ideas / suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Maybe it was passed down in a gene or something.

I think this is a question for a veterinarian, and Med Help has one here who volunteers her time, so it's free.  :-)  You can post your questions to Dr. Cheng on the Ask a Vet (Pet Health) forum.
