i have a year old happy healthy staffordshire bull terrier. Hes a yard dog so always about on a horse yard, rummaging around doing what dogs do!
he had been on the yard all morning( from 7am) - no signs of being ill, ate his breakfast no problems, left the yard around 3pm and on the 20minute drive home he seemed to be a little unhappy and curled in a tight ball. Got him home, and he was reluctant to get up and out of the car but did so, was a little tight walking but went of into the garden for an hour and busied himself, was about half past 4 and he came inside, and seemed even more unhappy, but he had done alot of running around on the yard with all the other dogs(all healthy) so put it down to him being hungry and tired.
fed him at 5pm - dry food and a little tinned food, he pushed it around his bowl and just sat all tucked up and stared at the bowl, i left him with his food and water for half an hour, went back and he hadnt touched a thing, but this point he was laying down, went to stand when i went into see him and just collapsed back down completely unable to get to his feet.
I picked him up and carried him outside to see if he would go to the toilet, but he just sat down, i called him back to the front door where there is a raised step and he shakingly got stood back up, stumbled to the step, tried to get up it and just fell over.
This all occured within 2 hours from being absolutely fine to being unable to get to his feet. He hadnt drunk or eaten anything.
I took him down to the emergency vet, he was now completely floppy in my arms, struggling to lift his head, he would stretch out every now and then in discomfort then just flop again.
He had blood tests, ultrasounds etc, put on a drip over night and by morning seemed to perk up, ate breakfast, hes on antibiotics, but they could not pin point what or why it happened and had no answer
His temperature was 41 when taken to the vet
the only thing slightly off norm was slightly raised protein levels.
Just wondered if theres an answer or its completely random!
